Steering Questions for my 60'
 

Hey everyone, I plan on lowering my 60 by flipping the front axle to keep it somewhat traditional, but I don't want to deal with the manual steering with bump steer issues that crop up.

I seen a few old threads that was talking about cross steer setups, but all the pics had been taken off Flickr.

So... I am looking for info and pics regarding converting my truck to power steering with a cross steer setup while keeping the straight axle.

I would appreciate any pics and or links.

This is the old link I was talking about. I realize that the Toyota gear box is a somewhat popular choice but it keeps the fore and aft drag link.

I am hoping to convert to a cross steer setup and it seems possible, since I am one of those people that like to 'see' things, pictures help a lot.

Hi Walston, thanks for the link.

Cross steer is when the drag link runs side to side where our trucks have the drag link running from front to back. Most vehicles went to it to eliminate bump steer.

I have to admit, if I can't get the cross steer setup I want, I'll most likely use the Toyota P/S box.

I have a shock absorber on the steering to eliminate the bump steering. The sell this set up at LMC, it works very well.

If I end up going with the Toyota box, I will add one of those. Based on what I have read many people use the steering dampeners with the straight axle trucks.

I'm not quite seeing how a steering shock avoids bump steer.

It all sounds like "Dark Side", stuff to me! :-X04

if you were having significant bump steer, I don't think that the steering dampener would eliminate it. I can see how it would dampen the response some what.

My 67' F250 had cross steer, and I know that some people have converted their fridge's, but I just can't find the info. I would be tempted to just go to the junk yard and get a bunch of parts that might give me what I need, but around here, the local yards think they are gold dealers! I will wait to find some better examples of what I'm looking for.
