Color of Commercial-made Bio

I'm on my second tank of B99 Bio-Diesel from my local oil supplier.
Yesterday when I filled up I took a peek at the color and it was a light brownish/clearish color-THIS stuff is made from Beef Tallow from "out west" I am told- it looks kinda like beef broth I thought all the commercial Bio was basicly clear.....I guess this stuff will dis-color my fuel filters a bit......

Color in not a factor with commercial bio. As long as it meets ASTM specs, no problem!

Biodiesel ends up the color of the oil feedstock. If you use virgin oil, soybean for example, you get nearly clear finished product. If you use brown waste veggie oil, you get brown.

As long as it passes the ASTM tests, color's nothing to be concerned about. Well, as long as it's not red, that is. But I don't know of any oil that would produce red product.

Thanks guys! this makes me feel better! I'll check next time I get a tank if it indeed passes the ASTM standards.

This stuff looks like dirty wash water bubbles up all weird at my filler neck when I fill up-I have driven over 600 miles now on this "beef-tallow" based B99 and my engine seems smoother, quieter, runs well, no loss of power and I'm still checking mileage but just by my filling it up right to the filler neck and seat of the pants feeling is that I haven't lost much, if any mileage by switching to B99, plus I'm saving 20-22cents per gallon and don't have to run any additional lubrication additive!-just the color of the stuff is a little weird at first.

Neat, man. I bet your exhaust smells great too.

Supercab 07-24-2012 11:37 AM

The exhaust smells different...not like french fries like everyone seems to think...not like steak on a grille either......its certainly nothing you'd want to breath in much of...to me it kinda burns my nostrils after a while...

It definitely does not smell like french fries. I hear that all the time. Probably from people that have smelled vehicles running on straight veg oil, and confusing the two. I think biodiesel has a much sweeter smell than petro diesel though.

I buy commercial B-99 and B-100 and they both look really close to each other, almost like honey.

Nice. What oil are you using to make that? The color makes it look like sunflower oil or corn oil.
