Pre assembly lube

This might be covered already but Im looking for suggestions on pre lubing engine parts.
I have a 2.8 liter powerstroke diesel in my Ranger. Its a beautiful little truck but the crankshaft broke and so the engine has been broken down, waiting for the new crankshaft to arrive.
What lube should I use for rebuild?
Here is the caveat... Im in Nicaragua. Not too much available but Ill be back in the states this month so I can pick something up.
How about while the parts are sitting? Should I keep them covered in a little oil to prevent rust?

Thanks

Oil is good to keep the rust off while you wait and when you return to the states, pick up some Lubriplate 105 for engine assembly.
