Howdy Howdy

Mornin' ya'll,

It is time i get rid of my off-road FORD (79 F350 4x4 400M 4speed) and the trade coming in is a 79 CJ5 mod/rod off-roader. I have been a mudder for a good time now, and have lil experience in the trail/rock crawling.

I am looking for suggestions on the best quality of tire to accomplish the job. Size is not an issue, she'd fit 44 comfortably but plan on something about 35-38. Any help is greatly appreciated,

Keep calm and Drive on,
Boomer

You do realize you have (or maybe had at this point) the absolute best platform for an offroad vehicle ever built by Detroit.

38-44s are going to positively kill that heep.

I gotta agree somewhat with Kris. For an overall mud/offroad truck, the 79 F350 would be the better platform to build off of. But if you are into the small tight trails, then the Jeep is the better choice simply for size, but you will need to do tons of upgrades (if not already done) to make it capable and not break on every outting. For the rocks, it better have D60 front and a 1 ton of your flavor rear (D70, 10.25/10.5, 14b) or better with upgraded axle shafts and some low gears to survive. As for tires, there has been a trend lately with the rock guys in my area to use the TSL IROCK or Pit Bull tires in the 38" flavor. In mud, you want wheel speed to clean, on rocks you want crawl ratio to get up and over.

Believe you me it's going to be a rough day when he drops off the jeep and leaves with my beauty. I found someone who would trade for a completed rig, for my still needs lots of work and money (not the issue) but without a shop i am not making any progress. I am active duty and being 1400+ miles from all my tools and 6 bay garage puts a hold on things.

Would you like a low down discription of the jeep?

Keep calm and Drive on,
Boomer
