7.3 vs v10 gas
 

I am looking to buy a older F 250 99 or newer which engine is more powerfull the 7.3 desil or the v10 gas I will be putting a lift kit and mud tires on it and will be using it for mudding and towing how many liters is the v10 also

The V-10 is a 6.8L engine.

The 7.3L Power Stroke is a more powerful engine.

If I got the v10 could I later put the 7.3 in it

V10 has more horsepower the 7.3l has more torque.

Technically yes but it would would not be worth it IMO. Better off just trading in the V10 truck and buying a 7.3l truck. There is a lot that would have to be changed.

The V10 comes in two forms; the 2V and the 3V.

The 2V was used from 1999 to 2004 and is rated at 305 hp and 420 ft lb (this varies slightly due to a change in 2000.)
The 3V was used from 2005 to 2010 and is rated at 362 hp and 457 ft lbs.
The 3V is still available from ford, but only in F450 and F550 chassis trucks.

The 7.3L was used for MANY years. There is also a 7.3L IDI motor that is pretty much unrelated. The 7.3L PowerStroke (that name was given to the DI turbo charged variant) was used from 1994.5 - 2003 and underwent many changes in that time.
I am going to assume you want a Superduty (Post-99) truck since you are comparing it to a V10.

The 7.3L used from 99-2003 is slightly different than that used from 1994.5-1997. Also notice a 1 year gap. No 1998 model year Superdutys were sold.

The 99-03 7.3L had many ratings over the years as things changed, but they were all in the same ballpark. The highest rating it was given was 275 HP and 525 ft lbs.

Also, a V10 and 7.3L are NOT directly interchangeable. There are many electronic changes, and the transmissions are not compatible with one another.

How heavy is heavy? The 7.3 has more torque which is better for towing, and for slower speeds like in mud. The V10 has more horsepower which is better for high speeds.

The answer to your question is yes.

A truck well siuted for mudding would be a horrible choice for towing IMO.
A truck better suited for towing heavy aint gonna make a great mudder.

You will not accomplish both with one truck IMO.

A compromize?

Sometimes over 5000 lbs

Knowing that, the gasser would be my choice.

Would the gas engine be lighter than desil?

How does the v10 handle heavy loads

The V10 is lighter than the 7.3L.

The V10 will tow heavy loads, but you will know is back there sooner than a 7.3 would tell you. Also in hills the V10 screams compared to a 7.3L.

I'm not afraid of noise I don't tow that often mostly light but I would like the capability of towing pretty heavy my dad has a 02
with a 7.3 and we tow a jd big round bailer it does a pretty good job how would the gas hold up to it?
