Disable PATS system?
Hi everyone, I am new here, I have a 99 F150 XL v6 4x4 5spd manual, pretty basic truck. I seem to have lost my keyring which contained my only ignition key, I have 2 spares which will only unlock the door and turn over the engine but it will not run, one of these spares is a Ford key, I find it odd that they would give out a key which doesn't operate the ignition, anyways since I now have no way to start my truck I was wondering if there is a way to disable the PATS system completely, my truck is an old beater I am not worried about anyone stealing it, I think PATS is a racket designed to make people pay through the nose for spare keys. Sorry if this info has already been discussed I did a quick search and didn't see anything helpful. Thanks.

Ford can supply 2 styles of keys. One with and one without the transponder for the PATS. Your second key may be a transponder style but may not have been programmed. You'll need to go to Ford for new transponder loaded keys to be programmed to your vehicle as I believe two are needed even if more keys are later required to be programmed.
As for disabling, I know of none, someone might. Even if you buy a bypass module, for say a remote start, you need a matched key to program the bypass module as far as I know. |
