Edge Evolution...definitely worth the money

I know I will get a bunch of you guys who are going to say that custom tunes are the way to go, but that much money wasn't in my budget right now.

Anyways, I installed my edge evolution programmer, and it is defintely the best mod I have done so far. The shift points are much crisper and the truck feels like it can get out of its own way now. The best feature is the fact that you can change the tire sizes and gear ratio. My truck now feels like it did when it had stock tires on it. My MPGs went up considerably (13.5-17.5). I can actually afford to drive it now as soon as i learn to keep my foot out of it that is.

The only negative is that I had to trim the pod a slight bit to make it fit perfectly.

I had a 7.3 diesel before this truck, and there still is no comparison as far as power goes but I wasn't really expecting this truck to tow 12k with ease. The edge really woke the 5.4 up and seems to have been just an overall improvement. Hell, I don't know what else I could have done that would have been this much of a change for 300 bucks. It was well worth the money and I would recommend one to anybody.

Glad to hear you're happy with it Clint.

FYI, "Custom tunes" would have only set you back $400 total, just in case anyone was wondering. Make sure you keep that intake, etc in stock form as the Edge is designed for a stock setup.
Enjoy it!

I'll say this now. Watch out! I noticed MY tuner was lying to me. Said I was getting great gas mileage. Turns out the milelage was wrong. The tire sizes were all wrong. I even used there math system. I do some serious long haul traveling. Speedo says I was doing 80mph while getting 17MPG turns out I was only going 65. By the time I caught on I called edge they said I had to pay 100 bucks to check it out. No matter if it was broken or not.

If I was you I would double check exactly how far you are driving and how far your edge is saying your going.

Glad you like your tuner. I love mine as well. Best thing I have ever bought for my truck. I would definitely try to get custom tunes as soon as you can. They only cost around $60 from PHP. Not sure about 5Star but im sure it is about the same.

Also, don't listen to the tuner for your MPG if that is were you are getting your readings as it is way off, at least for me. It was telling me I was getting around 20 mpg around town which I knew was wrong as I get 12.5-13. As much as I would have loved to have 20, I knew that wasn't happening.

I was going by the truck's dash reading for the avg mileage. It seemed to be spot on when I hand calculated it before the tuner, so I assumed that it would still be correct with the tuner. I know that these companies will lie about horsepower and mileage, so I didn't trust what the edge readout said anyways. I filled up today and will be hand calculating it when this tank it is empty.

The tuner didn't really give it too much of a seat of the pants feel, but you have to remember I came to this truck from a 7.3 diesel and the chip I had on it would literally add 125 hp with flip of a switch (huge difference). It did however firm up the shifts and adjusted for the tire size correctly which is mainly what I was looking for.

The Edge/Gryphon will definately improve the drivability of our trucks, but most find they lie about the mileage. The average "lie" is about 2 mpg better than the trucks actually are getting. That is after all ratios/tire size corrections are applied.

I just bought the same programmer for my truck, no custom tunes since my truck is mechanically stock. What was involved for the install, I have larger tires, other than that it's all stock.

It's not too complicated, just follow the instructions. The instal is done with the engine NOT running. There is a page where you can correct your tire/wheel size as well as the correct gear ratio. (The unit will come with "place holder" values that you'll need to correct for your tires & gears.)

Oh yeah. It was super easy to install. I would say that the hardest part was installing the fusion software on the computer to make sure that the edge was up to date. The install in the truck is super easy though.

Glad you like the tuner. I went the custom route and noticed a similar difference with the "crispness" of the shift points. Either way 'custom' or 'canned' these trucks do seem to run better with tuning.

I installed my tuner the other day and all I can say is wow!! What a difference, I have only used level 2 (towing tune) and the truck has come alive above 2,000 RPM where it used to fall on its face. Definitely one of the biggest bangs for the bucks!

glad to hear you like yours too.
