Oil Leak from HPOP fitting
Here's my problem... found the leak in the valley of death, it's coming from one of the fitting on the HPOP where the line attaches, but it doesn't look like it's coming from the hose, looks like it's coming out of the fitting itself.
Here's a pic: https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...id=249468&.jpg Any thoughts or suggestions? I'm trying to sell my 2wd trans so that I can upgrade to a T500 and put new lines on all at once... |
Are you sure its just not the oring on the fitting on the pump?
|
I'm not sure, I don't know enough about how it all goes together to know for sure.
Right where the arrow is pointing is where it is leaking... |
That line attaches to a fitting in the pump. That fitting has an oring on it an is more than likely your leak.
|
Darin is right. If it's leaking from there, it's the o-ring on the pump fitting or the line is not tight... Most likely the o-ring. It's an easy fix. Simply take the line off, pull the fitting out of the pump, replace the o-ring, and put the fitting and line back.

Cool deal. Do I need to get that HPOP line tool that Riffraff sells?
|
no it id for the sd pumps not ours
|
Yep, just standard wrenches.

Sweet! Anyone have a part number for that o-ring? THink the stealership would have one?

Dug this out of the part numbers thread.

Don't mean to throw a monkey wrench (not a pipe wrench Mike) into the works here but the flange on my HP hose had a small crack in it and caused a leak. Small at first until I tighten it down then a very big leak. Its hard to see, very hard, but that might be your problem.

It's not the hose that's leaking, it's definately at the fitting directly off the HPOP. I'd like to get new hoses though, I'm sure they're not in the best of shape after 190k miles.

Get the Ford or International o-rings! I have tried to fix leaks on the HPOP before with just some plain o-rings and they never last. Sometimes a day, sometimes a week. But they never last. Use the ford o-rings, and follow the directions for the repair. They have an o-ring kit that covers the HPOP fittings, and the serviceable plug on the back. Using the tool from Riffraff would help, but not necessary. You have to push down on the fitting, then pull the hose out. Be sure to push down on the fitting first! What I find amazing, is how loose that fitting is when the engine is shut off, and it doesn't leak! When you grab that line when it's running, it tightens up really tight.
