4x4 shift linkage

hello i stopped and talked to a guy with a 94 7.3 idi he said he would decide next week if he was going to sell it. it has 120,000 miles on it. i looked and the frame looks solid didnt really get under it it has typical ny rust but not horrible. he started it and it seemed to run well. it needs new tires which i have a set that will be good for now. he said it needs a new brake line which isnt a odd thing in ny. but he said the transfer case shifter broke somehow. so when he plowed his small driveway with it he would engage it by reaching and shifting it on the tcase itself. is this a common problem or should i be sceptical of this he gave me a price of 1800 but im sure if i wave 1500 in front of him hell take it. around here you cant find a decent diesel for under 5k so i was wondering if im getting in it for too much or not

The T-case is very easy to work on, and even cheap to replace, $1800-1500 for a diesel with that low mileage is a good price.

The t-case shifter freezing up & breaking is a common problem. Just search this forum... If it shifts at the t-case & operates well, then no problem.

okay thanks not to be flammed or anything i am a chevy guy but love the pre 97 250 350s so its just something i am very aware of my lack of knowledge and apologize for that. honestly this is the best forum i have been a part of i just can never get the search to help me at all. im scrapping during the summer and maybe plowing in the winter to pay for school and i need a truck for towing cars and what not i have already bought a few i just hate borrowing my dads truck it makes me feel like a bum and i dont want to put wear and tear on his truck
