6.9 Injector Pump R&R
 

I would like to start a discussion on the 6.9 Injector Pump and all that anyone who has experience with, would like to share.. Anyone out there with specifically 6.9 experience.. My personal issue is this: I have a 1986 F250 6.9 with a no start issue. After scrupulous attempts cranking the engine over, fuel is going to the injector pumps, and not out of the injector pumps. So, I am new to owning a diesel and through the experience of other who are willing to share their wisdom.

Again, anyone with experience with 6.9 injector pumps, removal and replace... Please in great details tell your specific 6.9 stories, pictures, videos, etc.. Thank you

tim b make sure your have 12v at the FSS (Fuel Shut Off Selinod. that would cause no fuel to the injectors... its ontop of the pump you must have 12 v going to the pump to keep the valve open to feed injectors.....

If you are sure you are getting fuel to the IP but not to the injectors, Vic is right, check the FSS first. If you have the key on and you connect the FSS lead, you should hear a click. If you hear the click, crank for a few cycles, letting the starter cool down for a minute after 10 seconds. If you still don't have fuel going to the injectors, make sure the lift pump is putting out enough fuel. If that is OK, then you need a new IP.

You won't get much help at all for rebuilding the IP as those who know how will not share that information because they make money rebuilding them. Similar scenario with rebuilding injectors and turbos. I'm not knocking anyone who rebuilds injection components; they need to make a living, too.

As said above, check the fuel solenoid, and if that is working, you should have something coming out of the fuel lines, even if the pump is completely worn-out, if there is nothing, than you have a mechanical issue, most likely a seized rotor, and broken shaft... Either way, your going to need a new pump, as the parts that go bad are lapped to each other, and need to be completely replaced...

Using the test light there is power going to the FSS, I assume it working properly. And, now getting a replacement injector pump. The issue is where, they are all rebuilt, which is the best and how about pensacola injector pumps? I am grateful, for the years of experience and knowledge everyone has shared with me... Thank You!

From What I've heard, the pennsicola IPs are kind of a crap shoot, some get a good one, some get a bad one. Someone posted that the Pennsicola pumps have a 50% failure. If it were me, I would look elese where. Do you have a shop that specilize in diesel injection near you? They usually cost a little more, but you can talk to them face to face.

Anyone know about Diesel Care Performance injection pumps? Also, I am in Las Vegas, and don't know of any diesel shops or injection repair shops.

I have heard to stay away from Diesel Care as they were worse than pennsicola. I think I would try this guy FORD DIESEL 7.3L 7.3 Stanadyne Injection Injector Pump | eBay . Ihave not heard anything bad about him. As he is in Phoenix AZ. he is a little closer to you. He also offers a rebuild service for your pump. His phone number is at the bottom of the page, I would give him a call and visit with him.

I have ordered 3 times from DCP and 3 times they messed up the order. I have 7 reman injectors from them and all 7 fail to pop at anywhere near the correct PSI and they all piss a stream of un-atomized fuel. The 8th injector is in my truck and probably the same as the rest. Why would their IPs be any different?

UPDATE: Hector with Injectors on ebay in AZ is either out of business or a scam... I ordered a rebuilt injection pump on Thurs. and called Fri. no answer, called Mon. no answer and the email address is no longer working... So, I had to dispute the charges on the credit card and still looking for a rebuilt injection pump for my 1986, 6.9... HOLD ON, finally received a response, from numerous emails, stating injection pump in the mail... The saga of hector with injectors continues... Stay Tuned!

UPDATE: Yesterday the injection pump arrived from "Hector with Injectors" and my mechanic has flaked on me. So, I posted for local mechanic or shop help... I now have a injection pump... It seems too difficult to do alone with all the warnings on timing...

as long as you don't take the timing gear cover off(thing the oil fill is connected to) you won't have to worry about screwing up your timing. after the install you "should" get it timed to get it dialed in, but you will still be able to drive the truck just fine with lining up the timing marks on the gear cover and the IP. it is really not hard at all. just take your time and have the article that i linked to before handy and you will be good to go.
