looking at getting a superduty need some advice
Hi guys i picked up a used 1992 ford f150 extended cab pick up but it seems to be needing more work then I can put into it. My wife suggest selling it or trading it in and getting something newer. I looked around and found an 03 f250 superduty xlt for around 9000 with 82,800 miles 5.4SOHC SEFI V8 ENGINE automatic 4x4. Questions i have is this a good price for this truck? what should i look for when looking at the truck? common problems?

If you can swing it move up to an '05....less blown sparkplug worries, better tranny.

would if i could but so far only found 03's in a decent price range. Basicly if one of these lower year models dont look good i have to keep looking or put he money into my current truck

By '03 they've fixed the plug blowing issue.
I'd get a V10 instead. You'll love the extra power. Match it with a 4.30 gear and you'll be set. |
I'd say that's a fair price if it's in decent shape, never hurts to try and talk them down though. 82K is fairly low mileage for a nearly 10 year old truck.
Some guys feel the 5.4 is underpowered, but it has way more power than whatever engine is in your 92 F-150. If you aren't towing heavy frequently, the 5.4 is more than sufficient. If you are going to be towing heavy on a regular basis, you will probably want the extra power of the V-10. |
Only found trucks with the v8. I think it would be hard to sell the wife on a v10 lol. As far as towing the only things I plan on towing would be a small fishing boat or a car trailer with my classic on it if needs be.

The 92 has a 5.0 in it but seems to be more issues then I want to put into it at this time. Someone just neglected it and if I had another truck I could fix it up nice slowly but I just don't have the time that's why I'm looking for a newer truck through a dealer

I went from a 1995 F-150 with a 302 to a 2007 F-250 with a 5.4L.
The old truck, while I loved it, was seriously feeling under powered. Ford claims the towing limit was 6500 pounds. With a 3500 pound trailer and my foot to the floor, I crested the Continental Divide on I-90 at 30 MPH. New truck, 9200 pounds is the recommended towing limit. I have had easily 1/3 more than that without issue. That little engine just amazes me. I also strongly recommend the 2005+ trucks. More power, much better transmission, front suspension was redesigned with coil springs, and bigger brakes. |
