96 i6 t0 5.0 ho swap

I just bought a 96 f150 with an i6 and auto for 150$. Its in good shape but the blocks cracked. I have a 5.0 from a 95 gt with the harness. Its only got around 30k on it.

So far I know I need, mounts, perches, 5.0 truck computer and a radiator.
Some questions I have are, can I use the i6 maf meter or do I need to find one with a mustang airbox? If so, how should I go about hookin it up?
I think I know most of everything I need but am I missing anything? Iv done alot of research but I find it easier to have some direct info.

This swap is more complicated because that truck is OBD-2, so if you have to meet emissions you'll need a '96 5.0 truck engine/chassis harness, computer, and MAF meter which are pretty rare, and on top of that you also need several 1996 exclusive engine parts and sensors. Now if emissions isn't a concern and you're really comfortable with engine wiring harnesses, you could use an earlier(OBD-1) 5.0 SD or MAF truck computer and wiring harness for an E4OD truck but you'll need the complete harness to swap in because it's totally different than the OBD-2 harness. If however you're not that comfortabe with wiring then it's going to be FAR easier to just put another I6 back in the truck.

Well the biggest thing is I allready have the 5.0 and harness. It runs perfect. So I might aswell do that. Today I got a 95 truck computer, perches and mounts. My biggest concern is will everything plug in? The mechanical lart I got covered. Everything on the mustang is on the other side so how do I go about using what I got?

Well no.. it won't. The OBD2 computer has 104 pins while the OBD-1 only has 60, and while the '95 truck computer will plug into the Mustang harness it(the stang harness) doesn't have any of the E4OD wires and those on your truck are hardwired straight to the OBD-2 EEC connector. Now these connectors do come apart so it's possible these wires could be removed with the pins intact and inserted into the mustang connector if.. the pins are the same type in both but I don't know if they are. And besides that the mustang harness is loomed opposite of the trucks so you'll have to strip all the tape off and re-arrange it, and the truck computers are pinned differently than the cars so there are some other wires that have to be moved around before you even start to add the transmission wires. Make no mistake this is not a simple plug and play, it's certainly doable but you'll need the wiring diagrams and lots of labels because you're gonna have to dismantle both harnesses and then build what you need from the parts.

Well I have yet to recieve the title but it says 95 on the door jam. Iv just been told its a 96 but I see no obd2 connectors

The OBDII port is screwed to the bottom of the dash under the right side of the ash tray.
Even if you did have a 96' 5.0 OBDII engine harness and engine you will need to move 3 wires (because of added injectors) in the harness that goes from the PCM to the engine harness plug.

Well can any of u tell me exactly what I need to do or get to make this work with what I have?

BigBlueOx 04-29-2012 10:09 AM

Not without knowing exactly what your parts are and what you want to end up with. Did you find out if your truck is OBDII or not? What letter is the tenth VIN digit? S or T?

It is obd2

These guys have wiring harnesses and have great quality.

RJM Injection

I have a 2000 Explorer Harness sitting around, I took it off the 5.0, looked to be in great shape. Not sure if it will help, If you're interested PM me.

What if I put a 5spd in it?

Edgethis 04-29-2012 12:43 PM

You'd need a computer for a manual trans equipped truck, so that the ECU won't be looking for trans sensors.

Well then I would find a '96 5.0 F-150 or Bronco only (F-250 and 350 wont work) in a JY with the same trans that you have and take the PCM and engine wiring harness. The wiring harness off a 5.8 is the same obviously.

Thats what I ended up doing. Found a 96 f150 e40d with a 5.8. Got the harness and computer. I shouldnt have any problems right? It was a 4wd

The inline 6 may not have had an E4OD, more likely it was the 4RW70
