Updated Torque Converter for the 6.7L

Looks like Ford has made some changes to the 6R140 TorqShift Transmission...

After 150k miles of hard towing, my torque converter has had enough. Since it was new, it always had a very slight stumble shifting between 5-6, up and down and had the 2-3 shift flare. Had it re-programmed twice in the first 100k, with slight improvement. After hit 120k, we started to notice a very hard downshift from 5-3. The downshift felt like you rear ended the vehicle in front of you, a really hard slam. We also noticed she was burning a lot more fuel than normal, so we were thinking the torque converter was not locking up and was slipping.

So we ordered a new torque converter and started there. New torque converter came in and it would not bolt up to our flywheel, cause Ford has updated it and made enough of a change that it requires a new flywheel. I am sure the 2012 has the updated torque converter, but I can't find anything on it anywhere?

After the new Torque Converter/Fly Wheel were installed the transmission had a very slight improvment, but still the hard bang downshifting from 5-3 :-X19, like coming off and exit ramp with some braking. Next we updated the shift solenoids that controlled electonic pressure and that seem cure the harsh bang. Total cost $844 Torque Converter and $76 for the flywheel, $42 for the electronic shift solenoids and 1k labor, bout 2k total vs. $5,300 for a Ford RE-MAN transmission, hopefully we are cured, only time will tell. :-X16

Anyone else been had any issues?

same issue. just had my tc n flywheel replaced at 16,600 miles. but now it has a worse problem then it did before it was replaced. when pulling i have to ease into the throttle, i cant get on it otherwise it makes a noise so bad i feel like the tranny is guna drop out of the truck. been like this for 3 weeks, dealer doesnt know where to begin so they contacted ford. 3 weeks with no response is really pissing me off to say the least. if ford cant get their heads out of their ass ill be ordering the truck i already built on the gm website... they should be embarrased by there customer service.

16xxx miles and already having problems? so the tranny issues from the 2011's carried over to the 2012's blue oval fan??

Have them change the Electronic Pressure - Solenoid part# BC3Z*7G383*U $42 part and it made all the difference. We did the tc and flywheel with little difference and the Electronic Pressure Solenoid solved the issue. I wish they knew that up front, because it may not have needed the tc and flywheel.

REMAN Transmission

I was surprised to hear that the Ford reman 6R140 comes with a 3yr unlimited mileage warranty. The major downside is it runs about 5k installed. I opted to try the T/C and Flywheel first, but I wish I tried the $42 Solenoid because that was the issue all along and I think that it may have damaged the T/C over time with the harsh shifting. Any one have issues should try flashing it first and then go right for that Solenoid before it does any long term damage to the T/C.

Good to hear from you again Nemotorcars.
I had the shift solenoids replaced about a month ago and I felt like I had a new truck.
I imagine I'm going to have torque converter issues later in life, too.
The way mine shifted for nearly 30,000 miles couldn't have been good for it.

I wonder why, since Ford changed the design of the TC, we're responsible for replacing the other working parts to make the design change work in our truck.
I have no issue paying for the new TC because in your case it's out of warranty but now we need to be ready for replacing other parts.
$76 for the flywheel isn't a huge deal but would be worse if it was a $1,000 part.

Oscard, my truck is a feb 2011 build, so I'm unaware of Any '12 problems

oscard0215 04-25-2012 12:31 PM

thanks.. just curious since i've got my eye on a sweet '12 and would hate to be going through ANY tranny problems with that low amount of miles..

I've had my truck in twice for the 2nd to 3rd rough shifts. They just keep flashing and it runs goods for a couple weeks. Truck will clunk into 3rd gear sometimes now.

My thoughts would be to get on the trottle and then they will have no choice but to install a new tranny...}>

does anyone know if the Electronic Pressure - Solenoid part# BC3Z*7G383*U is something i can change out myself? or should i take it in and have done

My truck goes to the dealer Monday morning for the tranny issues with a shutter when up shifting 4/5, 5/6 and a bang when down shift. I will let everybody know how it goes. I love the truck but hate the tranny right now :(

2012?? keep us posted and good luck on the fix..

I took my truck in last week and had the selling dealer due a tranny flush and change the filter. I have 25,000 miles on the truck and when towing my 5er, I'm over 27,000 GCVW. The tranny gets pretty hot at times so I figured I would do a little preventative maintenance. I have the dealership due occasional maintenance repairs when I don't have the time. I feel like it keeps a good relationship between us. I can't afford to always take it to the shop. But, this way, they know I still trust them and want to service my truck in a timely manner.

I had a pcm flash about a year ago for the bumpy shifts. It didn't really seem to help much, after about 1000 miles it was back to it's old tricks. I asked the service writer to check for updates and they wound up replacing three solenoids, as per TSB 11-7-10.

11-7-10***6.7L WITH 6R140 TRANSMISSION - 2-3 SHIFT FLARE AND/OR MIL ON WITH DTC P0733 AND/OR DELAYED REVERSE ENGAGEMENT - BUILT ON OR BEFORE 4/11/2011

We'll see if it helps. So far, it's shifting great. :-X22

Does anyone know where the solenoids are located?

Here's a site that shows a bunch of TSB's for the 2011 6.7 Ford: Technical Service Bulletins: 2011 F-250

The solenoids are accessable from the fluid pan.
