Were having the body work done by a place that specializes in mustangs. Me and my old man can do most of it but paint and body work aint one haha. We did a lot of the motor work, and had it bored out and honed and the bottom end done by a family friend. But other than that were doing it all as far as the top end.

As far as colors go, I've been changing my mind every month since i bought it! I can't decide. My top three choices at the moment are dark blue with pearl silver stripes, dark red with black stripes, or silver with black stripes. Decisions decisions....

heres another of the motor. Its a 289 bored 30 over.

Awitte58 05-09-2012 09:44 AM

Nice project mustang!
Another wonderful OT question does anyone know when international "recommended" an overhaul for these the 7.3s one friend said it's like a million miles that you shouldn't have to do pistons, rings all that stuff...hard to believe but I want to! It's one of those things that I want to know for sure for bragging rights but it has to be true via some link or else ya just look stupid

No one said you did. I didn't figure you can shear a cats coat though.

tjc transport 05-09-2012 10:01 AM

international recommends rebuilding the 7.3 when it don't run anymore.

some day one will stop running and then we will know how many miles we can expect out of them.

rite. and this is the guy that said the 7.3 was a pile of junk that is lucky to last for 100,000 miles.
i have an IDI with 493,000 miles on it, and know of at least 15 with over 300,000 miles on them that have never been taken apart.
and the powerstrokes are the same way. i know of at least 50 powerstrokes with over 300,000 miles on them and still run like new.

fordpride 05-09-2012 08:15 PM

We needed something/someone new to talk about :)

Ok.....you got a point there LOL!!!

Talyn 05-09-2012 09:37 PM

302k here on my truck.

ReBilld 05-09-2012 10:42 PM

The red/black truck I bought a while back, that is now a parts truck, showed 338k on the clock and the engine ran good. I'm gonna use that engine for my crw cab project, but I think I'm gonna go ahead and do a full rebuild on it since it's a frame off project and I want my crw cab to be like a new truck when it's finished.

361k on my truck and never had to pull a valve cover except for glow plugs and when I've upgraded injectors.
