Identifying 1946ish pickup
I apologize if this type of question has been asked and answered a zillion times. I have got my hands on a mid 40's pickup and none of the numbers I find match anything in websites. The V8 engine says Made in Canada on and C59A on pass side amd C59A on driver's side. The bell housing (under the tranny cover) has *6J5*stamped on it. There is a plate on the driver's side firewall that has 4 lines- Engine 6J-5, Trim L-18001-E, Paint M-1800-L and
Code 21246H21051. Any Ideas? Any other places to look? I would appreciate any information or advice anyone can give me... |

The info you posted is good information, here is what I have found. Code 21246H21051--212 = 1 Ton Pickup first 3 digits 46 = 1946 H = Home Windsor, Ontario 21051 = job or line number Paint M-1800 = Yosemite Green C59A Engine = 239 V8 Now this information i got from a Canadian Parts Book, and by the looks your engine might have been changed at some point, its the correct one but usually the C59A was designated for the Car. In my Pickup which is a 47 1/2 Ton, the Heads are marked C7RA-A Ford Of Canada introduced in 1946 the V.I.N. Tag that you have on the driver's side Firewall. Also all vehicles built by Ford in Canada were V8 Engine equiped. I couldn't find the Trim Number you gave, but most were Body Color in your case Green. On a further note the code number you listed is your V.I.N. Hope this helps you out some.:-X22 Some of the other numbers you listed were for line assembly use and don't really mean anything and I doubt if you would be able to find them in a reference book. |
Thanks Guys,
That wasthe exact info I was looking for. As an FYI, the trim is a cream color. |

If your refering to the outside trim color as being cream color, they all were.
I was refering to the inside, seat, headliner, dash.:-X22 |
A little more info about your engine:
6=1946 J=bore and transmission number xxxx=consecutive unit number My 47' one ton has a 46' engine in it as stock from the factory. They often used up old build engines well into the next model year. |

Just went in and looked at your Truck, looks real solid nothing like good western iron. Here is a pic of my 47 all original never been touched with exception to the front fender. This truck sat in a warehouse for over 35 years up in the mezanine. It still has the original glass which is not yellowed, sliding back window, dual wipers, lighter all stock equipment. If you ever go to paint your truck the Ford logo on the side of the hood stays body colour, and your truck is Yosemite Green.:-X22 https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...id=219733&.jpg |

Going by where I picked up the '46, I spotted one very similar in the abandoned farm yard across the road. I drove in and checked it out. The serial # was 21047H*****. Any thoughts on that VIN? It looked bigger, had a flatbed and a lever sticking through the floorboard near the stick that I can only assume was for a PTO/hoist. It had some of the glass and headlights, a door handle etc. that mine is missing but no motor and it was in generally rougher shape. Am I correct in thinking that the parts will cross over? If so, I will endeavor to find the owner. Thanx:confused: |
5-star.... That truck is awesome... Your truck has been my avatar since October when I first joined FTE. Found as a random pick on the internet. It looks very sim. to my truck. (but in better shape and still in one piece) Hope you don't mind.

so, do you still own the truck?

Chris, don't mind one bit on the Avatar. I used my 51 F-1 5 Star Avatar for quite awhile now hence the handle. Thats a Truck I should have kept it was fully restored and I picked it up in Las Vegas.
Had a lot of nice Trucks over the past few years, but I always see one that appeals to me more so. this 47 I know have is so damm original that I'm not going to alter it one bit, still even has the original interior in it, and the Truck is vert solid there are marks on it from usage but thats the beauty of it.:-X22 |

The 210 was a 1 Ton 122 inch wheel base and came from the Factor as a Cab & Chassis, so it could have been a light duty Dump Truck for Grain , or Wrecker who knows but the original owner. As far as interchange goes all the Body parts on that Truck will fit yours, including the Fenders, Cabs were all the same with exception of the C.O.E. so in short a Cab off a 3 Ton would fit the 1/2 Ton, & vice versa, but the fenders were a little larger on the bigger Trucks.:-X22 |
Great Thanks.
I hope that a) I can track down the owner and b)that he/she is reasonable. This is a lot of fun! Can't wait 'till I get some time to get my hands greasy... |
