P0401

I recently had a magnaflo exhaust, sinister egr delete and sct tuner with egt probe. The egt probe doesn't seem to work and I'm to send it back to SCT. Now on my way to rope to night with just the trans tune and egt delete in force my turbo started jumping all over the place with woosh noises and fluttering power at accelaration. Engine light came on and the code reader said P0401. Any ideas would be appreciated of where to look or what to do!

BLADE35 04-23-2012 10:30 PM

I assume you have an 05+

What year????

P0401 C* Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Insufficient Detected EGR Valve Position does not match desired, limits based on
engine speed / load.
EGR Valve stuck or sticking - EGR Valve Position Sensor Bias - EP
Sensor bias.

Your going to need a Custom tune on you SCT tunner for a EGR Deleate and the CEL. Your P0401 is common after the egr deleate

Do you have any other Gauges the Whooose sound is Normaly what we call a Turbo Fart. So how High does BOOST PSI Go????

You can try and clean your EBP Sensor and Tube see if that helps your OverBoost if that what it is

Also need to check MAP&EBP&BARO sensors at KOEO and post Values

How long has it been since the EGR Deleate???

Do you have any Gauges

It is a 2006. The delete was last week (114K miles) and I'm wondering if there is something wrong with the tuner as it is set for egr delete. The boost on my pickup just about red lined, I didn't catch what it was on the sct at its highest but it was all over the place.

Blade 35 thanks for the help. For the hek of it tonight I put it back to stock. I stood on it (not real hard as I didn't want horses falling down) and couldn't get the turbo to act up again. I did of course throw the same code which make sense with no egr. Do you suppose something is wrong with the tuner especially being it won't read egt? Any ideas?

BLADE35 04-24-2012 11:08 PM

I dont know to much about tunners so take this FWIW

It just makes me wonder since the EGT Probe isnt reading and if the tunner should turn off the CEL for a EGR Deleate and it doesnt Makes me wonder about the Tunner

Im kinda thinking you need a new tunner same as you

Is there anyway to reset the tunner?? I just dont know to much about them

Here is a Bump for ya and maybe one of the TUNNER GURUs will hit this thread

fdaugher 04-25-2012 10:41 PM

How are you getting around the EGR delete code? I see we must have the same kit. Also the guy I bought the tuner from said he is going to reboot it, I wonder how often that has to be done. I don't need that going on away from high speed internet in the hills. Making me wonder how your getting around it.

BLADE35 04-25-2012 10:55 PM

Mines an 03 your an 06

Diffrent PCM programing stratigies

nothing to do with the EGR Deleate itself as far as the CEL

Your PCM is watching EBP and IAT2 for change as EGR Valve opens since it gone theer is no change thus you get a CEL and possibly go into limp mode

I cant get a reading for EBP so my truck PCM not looking for it

Now if I got a Newer PCM stratigy then things might change

03s RULE LOL

fdaugher 04-26-2012 06:38 PM

"I see now" says the man who wishes he would of stuck with his bullet proof 7.3L. Thanks for the information hopefully we will get the tuner figured out Sunday.

Curt's05 04-26-2012 09:00 PM

Custom tunes are the way to go, the tune master uses your stock strategy to modify your pcm. You need to tell them what happened & what you want. I doubt if the tuner caused your issue if matt or eric did the programing...

If my scangauge cant read ebp does that mean i wont get the 0401 code if i delete my egr cooler and leave my valve plugged in?

Steel you have a Better chance at NOT throwing a EGR Code since you dont use EBP readings if you do an EGR Deleate

I knew mine wouldnt give me any issues with a EGR Deleate cuz I ran for awhile with the EGR Valve unplugged

steelhead2 04-27-2012 10:05 AM

I got the code when i unplugged my valve, but if i leave it plugged in i wonder if i'd still get it?.my latest flash was about 5 years ago. Dont mean to hijack your thread Fdaughter. Do you have the ebp code handy blades?, think i'll try it and if my sgauge dont read it i'll delete the cooler.

BLADE35 04-27-2012 06:16 PM

try this

EBP Exhaust Back Pressure TXD: 07E0221445 RXF: 046285140645 RXD: 3010 MTH: 001D00500000 NAM: EBP

if I find any other codes I will let you know

Amdriven2liv might have alternate codes to he been good to keep up with them

Hope it works for ya or I guess I should say Dont work LOL

I dont see any benefit to having a EGR System

a EGR system supposed to reduce NOx by keeping cylinder temps lower

IMO theres could be less NOx cuz less Combustable Material going into the Cylinder (nothing to burn that second time around with EGR) VS Lower cylinder temp

Uncle SAMs EGR System comes at a Price less MPG you get better combustion (BOOM) with fresh air I gained at least 1 MPG with a deleate so thats like 25 extra miles per tank could be a Hair More IDK to me it was worth it in adition to no more worrey about EGR Cooler Bursting and Hydrolock and all the fun stuff that comes with that

steelhead2 04-27-2012 09:44 PM

Thanks,i'll try it tomorrow. If it dont read, bye bye egr cooler!.

I also did the EGR Deleate because the EGR Cooler DOES NOT always Fail because of a plugged oil cooler.

IMO the Odds of the EGR Cooler Failure all by itself are Way LOW

Nothing to mechanicly fail if its GONE
