2010 Expy - Black soot exhaust water staining driveway!!
 

I have always noticed black soot filled water dripping out of my exhaust. I have also noticed small oil stains forming where I park my truck. The location of the drips is just behind the motor in the center of the vehicle. Not sure if this is an exhaust drain hole or a leak in the exhaust. Most recently, there are some large oil stains developing, tail pipe is black on the end as well. I am furious that my 2 year old driveway is being ruined by my "new" truck. I guess I will have to waste my time yet again taking it to the dealer probably only to hear "this is normal sir". Anyone else experiencing this? I have read it's a problem on the F150 ecoboost as well. Not sure why these things are set to run so rich. I always notice the amount of exhaust fumes at startup is far more than what you would expect from a modern vehicle. If anyone has a TSB or documentation for this issue please post.

I get condensation in mine and have start up fog as it burns off the water. Your oil leak is not from the exhaust. I would look under with a flashlight, should be easy to spot the leak. That is under the powertrain warranty.

It has to be the exhaust, it is black oily water that only appears on cool mornings. There is a piece f the exhaust that runs sideways between the driver and passenger side doors roughly.. I am pretty sure that's where it drips from.. The F150 forums have similar complaints on ecoboost setups..

There's no oil in your exhaust system
There could be if the motor was burning oil really bad, but you'd be blowing blue smoke out the tail pipe - not the case here I assume

It could be a leak from somewhere else that drips onto the exhaust and runs down to the lowest point before dripping to the ground.

Black inside your tail pipe is normal, every car is like that.

I get drips from my tail pipe, enough to make me see where it was coming from. Turns out its the rear AC unit that drips water onto the pipe, then onto the ground. I noticed sometimes that these drips are 'dirty' like you mention. Its because carbon can dissolve in water, and the black around the edge of the tail pipe is carbon



So back to your issue, are the drips 'oily'? or just dirty water.
