West coast CV's up for auction 4/26
If anyone is interested in doing a CV front end switch in California they are going to auction a lot of High mileage (Taxis) 1997-2003 in Seaside near Monterey. I am going if I can figure out how to make the conversion without lowering the ride height.
West Auctions - Auction: (28) Ford Crown Victoria Sedans from Monterey Checker Transportation, Inc. http://www.westauction.com/user_imag...92_9146231.jpg |
But aren't those too wide for 57-60 trucks?

Taxis
In So Cal cab companies buy auctioned police cars and paint them yellow (or whatever)to use as cabs. That means they have a lot of miles and abuse by the time they're auctioned after their 'second life'. :-X18

I only seen 2 candidates, 1 looked to be missing pieces. Both are '03's. As to mileage it really is relative to what you pay for the beast. There isn't much there to rebuild even if you did the entire thing. As to being too wide. For the most part full size vehicles are the same width. If not they are pretty close. This swap is starting to make it's way into the fridge body style. There is a thread by Fast58 where he put one in his truck.

Somehow I don't think this would hold up on my F350 very well. I will stick with what's in it. :)

I saw a video documentary of a high school shop teacher on youtube that did the CV IFS swap and kept the stock ride height. He put a piece of 4X4 square tubing between the frame and the CV cross member on the bottom side. Seemed to work pretty well.

Crown Vic/Mercury Grand Marquis do not have rack & pinion steering until 2003.
