P0401 EGR flow insufficient?
I have a 2000 Ford Ranger 3.0L engine, 2 wheel drive, with automatic transmission. Check engine light came on about 3 months ago. checked with scanner and P0401 EGR flow insufficient came up. cleared it and it came back. truck seems to be running fine. I didn't take autoshop as a kid, so i probably will need a little hand holding on this one.

P0401 EGR flow insufficient?
Hi meb1675, welcome to Ford Truck Enthusiasts!
I'm not an auto technician, but I've seen quite a few posts regarding the same problem and DTC that you are exeriencing. In almost all cases the culprit turned out to be a faulty DPFE sensor. (DPFE = Differential Pressure Feedback EGR). The sensor is easily relaceable and not that expensive (relatively speaking, of course). |

hey thanks for the reply. how would i test the sensor to see if it is bad or not?

P0401 EGR flow insufficient?
I'm not sure there is a test for the actual sensor itself. Haynes and Chilton's Manuals do not show one.
Here's a quick reminder: If/when you replace the DPFE sensor, make sure you disconnect the negative battery terminal for at least 15-20 minutes so that your PCM (computer) will reset and then adapt to the new sensor. Good luck. |

fix for your problem it is the DPFE sensor
http://groups.msn.com/RangerBill/ran...to&PhotoID=677 if it the original part it is most likly shot the new part is plastic and is about 75$ from the dealer or 50 or so from an aout parts store if they can figure out what it is hope this helps |

I'm going to change my DPFE sensor tomorrow on my 2000 Ranger XLT i have the P0401 Code.. I keep hearing different stories on how to clear the PCM from the P0401 code--I'm told that disconnecting the battery for 15 min WONT clear the code and some say it will.... Thanks for any help.......... MARK

That will clear the codes, the Ford manuals list it as an alternate method.

P0401 EGR flow insufficient?
Ok thanks!! 1 More question--By disconnecting the battery--will i notice any strange things happening-Such as strange idles or crazy shifts untill the PCM resets? Just wondering?
|
P0401 EGR flow insufficient?
it may act funny for a minute or 2 untill the ECU "relearns" the setting but shouldn't run into anything major
