Oil change interval - 3000 miles or go by computer?

Did a search but didnt find what Im looking for

I got an oil change yesterday, regular 3000 miles (actually just a little over 3k this time)

When I go to reset the oil change indicator, it still says oil life is at 30%

So.. this makes me question...
Do you guys change the oil every 3000k?
Or do you change it when the computer says?

My computer comes on 5k after I reset it. Works well for me as a reminder.

Manual says 7500 unless sever conditions. I do 7500.

FYI,

I'm aging... That said, I now do my oil changes in multiple of 5,000 miles. It becomes a exercise of 3rd grade math.

3000 mile oil change hasn't been necessary since the 1940s...

Ford recommendation is 7500 for the '08 and later (I recall) and 5000 for the '07. Not sure why the difference, the engine is exactly the same.

Changing oil too often just wastes your money. Get an engine oil analysis if you think necessary. Major truck fleets don't change the oil until the analysts says to.

Computer reset for mileage is in the manual somewhere. Defaults to the Ford recommendation.

I change in strict accordance to the maintenance manual. The OLM is time or mileage based and can be adjusted if you prefer shorter intervals.

Mine is the 2007 and gets the 5000 miles treatment. Reset is pretty easy--hit menu a couple of times to get to the oil reset option.

No reason really. Ford went along with what other makers had moved towards. Same engine, oil and filter. No need to change it at 5000.

Oil life monitor is time based too

I only drove my Expedition 5000 miles last year. The reminder will take off % oil life remaining even if you don't drive your vehicle! Oil life for my 2007 is 5000 miles OR 180 days! I had to reset my reminder early because of time, not miles.

berry1234 06-26-2012 02:02 PM

Yeah, it's recommended if you don't hit your mileage to change it at 6 months.
