1964 Wiper Switch Rebuild

On a dark rainy night I attempted to pull my wiper switch as if it were the headlamp switch next door. The switch blew up on me; I gathered the parts in a baggie and next day attempted to rebuild the thing. All the pieces look like they are there but I don't know exactly how they are supposed to fit together. In particular, a copper plate scribed with contacts and with hole in the middle looks like it is supposed to fit into a plastic plate which is on the other side of the plug prongs that lead to the motor wiring but I can't seem to get it right. Can anybody help?

Since the switch came apart, I doubt you can put it back together. Does your truck have single or two speed wipers?

Hi it's the single speed which I understand was stock on the '64 F-100. There are no '64 switches available anywhere I've found. A couple of the outfits like SpeedShop did have a cache of NOS but they're gone now. Incredibly there is one selling on eBay for 150 bucks. So I don't know what to do if I can't reassemble.

How could you determine this if you didn't have the Ford part number, knew what its applications were, and...

There were two different single speed wiper switches used in 1964:

C3UZ-17A553-D .. Single Speed Wiper Switch - 3 terminals (Motorcraft SW-724) / Marked: C3UB-17A553-D / Obsolete

Last MSRP: $60.36 / Dealer net cost: $28.37

Applications: 1963/64 F100/600 & 1963/66 Econoline.

63 (!) available NOS (New Old Stock) / If this is the switch you need, I'll type some of the sources.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
C3TZ-17A553-G (replaced C3TZ-17A553-C) .. Single Speed Wiper Switch - 5 terminals (Motorcraft SW-722) / Marked: C3TB-17A553-G / Obsolete

Last MSRP: $17.82 / Dealer net cost: $8.02.

Applications: 1963/66 F100/600.

:( No Ford Dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any. But, an FTE member (65GH) needed one of these switches a year ago for his 1965 F250.

It was discovered that C3UZ-17A553-C will work in place of it (Marked: C3UB-17A553-C). Also has 5 terminals, was used on 1963/66 Econolines.

5 of these switches are available NOS. It's been obsolete so long, there are no prices listed on Fords website.

If interested, I'll type the sources/phone numbers.

Thanks so much Bill. It's the 5 terminal switch.

The following is the 5 terminal switch that myself and FTE member 65GH discovered will work in place of C3TZ-17A553-G

C3UZ-17A553-C =

NOS PARTS SOURCE in Olathe KS has ONE = 913-220-5746.

WESLEY OBSOLETE PARTS in Liberty KY has TWO = 606-787-5293.

GREEN SALES CO. in Cincinnati OH has TWO = 800-543-4959.

Incredibly after two years I am still attempting to find the right switch. The 5 prong Econoline switch did not work unfortunately, as shown in the photo. My blown out switch is on the left, the Econoline switch I purchased on the right. As you can see the configuration is wrong. Any ideas?

Here is my dumb question for the day. Where do you hook up 5 wires on single speed motor? Three is hard enough figure but 5? My wipers quit working also but have not looked at the problem. I was hoping to take the switch a part and clean it. That worked on the blower and headlight switches.

Hi under the dash on the other side of the wiper slot is a receptacle that (at least in my truck) contains a female plug matching the configuration of the 5 prongs and that runs via wires to a small motor which I assume is the wiper motor.

I was wondering what the wires control. Ground for one, power for another, may single wipe position for a third or reverse. What are the other wires needed for?

I don't know. As noted above, there were two types of switches for single speed motors, a three and five wire. Wondering if the additional two (on the five wire) were extras were some kind of option or upgrade?

In any event, I can't find the switch for my configuration anywhere.

Let me look in my stash tomorrow after work. I have a box full of them.

And the answer is Nothing. On the switch, orange is power in, red is ground out, green is power, and black is reverse power/park which is always hot when the key is one. The others are dead. I assume in a two speed switch they are the second speed.

The good news is my switch is good and I have power. The bad news is the issue is with the motor. I will pull it today and see if it can be repaired. Otherwise, I will upgrade to two speed.

Where did you find this diagram? I'd like to find a larger version.
