4x4 front Axel shaft seals
Hello again to everyone @ F.T.E. I need seals both inner and outer on my 01 f350 wondering what you all are using . Fords outer seal is supposed to be an updated design, wile the SKF brand inner is about 2x the cost of Fords . Also anyone use National ? Ive always heard they are a good seal. and are reasonable on amazon . Its not all about price, I don't want to be doing this again any time soon ! Id pay more for the SKF inner if its that much better. The Ford inners don't seem to hold up that well. Any opinions will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks! |
By inner and outer seal, I assume you mean the one that sits at the end of the axle tube (inner) and the one that sits in the hub (outer), correct?
If so, I'm putting in a Timken inner seal (710413, $17.99 at Autozone) and a Ford outer seal (f81Z-3254-CB). I believe that outer is available at Rock Auto for around 32 bucks. |

There appears to be a redesigned inner seal as well . Rock auto has a timken for $8.06 that they recomend, and another timken for $41.79 that they dont. (You know that little heart they put by a part that has high sales & low returns) the one for $41.79 apears to be the redesigned one. Now Im really confused!

I just finished up my truck, and here's a little advice if you use the Timken 710413 inner seal- DON'T initially seat it all the way on the inner shaft! Start out with the seal about 1/8 of an inch from being completely seated and trial fit the shaft, then adjust as necessary.
The reason I say this is because I seated my driver side seal all the way and it left a slight gap- a gap that was big enough not to be sealing anything. It was a pain in the butt to adjust back out. My passenger side seated all the way with a good seal though. |
