EBP Tube
Is there an EBP tube and sensor to clean on the 6.0?
|
Yup, not a great pic. It's input is ignored on the 03 and early 04 trucks if they have been reflashed.

your 03 dont use EBP
its there the sensor for EBP just not in use whats the matter with your truck |
I'm just looking at things that may need attention. I just recently cleaned and unplugged my EGR. No check engine either. Its got 103,000 on it and I have only kept the oil changed every 5,000, tranny flushed every 50,000, air filter just changed, and fuel filters last fall. Getting some poor mileage so I'm researching things to check or clean that maybe an issue. The FICM is next as soon as I get the time. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

If he has NEVER been reflashed, then his PCM could (probably) still uses it. If he took it into Ford after May of 2006 or so, then he probably doesn't use it (Ford reflashes even if you don't ask for it). The inferred EBP flas came out in mid 2006.
As far as mileage goes - check dragging brake calipers, stuck AC clutches, tire pressures, etc. |
I'm sure it has been reflashed. It's been in the shop for fuel injectors, transmission flush, and hub replacements before so I'm sure they did it. The Transmission was just done a few months ago. No break drag, tire pressure are normal. I read that when they relashed them that may be causing some of the loss in mileage.

Is there a way to find out if mine is in use? 2004 f250 2/04 build date. Have a P0299 code and wanted to try everything before pulling turbo as boost is good and heard ebp tube cleaning can help. Just cleaned EGR valve. Thanks

NOw, my truck is a 2006, does it use EBP? I just kleen the dam thing and it was not easy to unscrew.

If a scangaugeII will get an EBP reading, then your flash is probably using it (and vice versa) - at least that is how I understand it.
|
This is what I was thinking, i read EBP with scangauge, since the input is from the sensor, then .... I have read here 6.0 PowerStroke bulletins
That 03 and 04 had a recall to cancel the EBP reading by the computor. But it looks like it was just to clear a problem with these years? Since they left the EBP on the 2006 engines, I would imagine it is use somehow. Plus there is a few test to perform with the EBP. |
Why did Ford reprogram the ECU to ignore the EBP sensor on the 03 trucks?
It is used on the later trucks. |

2003/04 Computer Programming Recall 06E17: Truck built before 9-29-03 are being recalled to have the computer reprogrammed. The reason for this recall is to correct fuel injection timing during cold operation, EGR valve control, lack of power, check engine light illumination (P02263 or P0299), hard starting and rough running concerns related to Exhaust BackPressure sensor corrosion. Other symptoms not listed in this recall, but which could occur, would be excessive smoke, turbo control and surging at idle or cruise. The new update eliminates the EBP sensor input to the computer. The exhaust backpressure will now be inferred/calculated using other sensor signals. Trucks should be reprogrammed using versions 41.8 or 42.1 or higher. After this reprogramming, the truck should be test driven, the computer checked for a codes and the codes cleared (even if none are present), the key cycled on for five seconds, then turned off twice, then the engine started and allowed to idle for 5 minutes at operating temperature to allow the computer to relearn the EGR valve closed position value. This is to prevent erronious codes or driveability sysmptoms related to the EGR valve an turbo performance. Broadcast Messages 5452, 5529. You should notice an increase in turbo cycling closed/whistling at idle and at stops. This is normal, and is to help keep the variable vanes from sticking. |
