Differences of frame width '96 and '04?

Does anyone know the differences in frame widths between the older '96 frames and the '04 frames? I have access to a receiver hitch from a newer truck but the width seems a little narrow for my '96. I have access to fabrication shop but I do not want to create a frankenstein hitch...minor bends and welds are fine.

Thanks!
Leo

Just buy the correct hitch for the truck. Cutting/bending/welding to make that hitch fit will significantly weaken it.

I found new kits for under $300. A used one in need of some sort of fab will cost about $100. Unless I find the correct used one cheap, I'll take the easy way and buy new.

Thanks!

NEVER compromise when it comes to a hitch.

If the hitch is truly from an 04 and not any newer, it will fit your 96. If it was an oem one, it may not because of bolt hole locations. However, any aftermarket hitch you would buy for your truck, that part number also fits f250/350/SD up to 2004.

$300?!?!

Here's one for $128 with free shipping, says it includes a ball mount insert too.

The used one I found for $100 is an OEM from a '04. I'm looking at the Titan 45002. I don't currently need a weight distribution capable hitch but cost wise it doesn't make sense to buy a bigger hitch later. I already have a couple of Class 5 drop hitches and adapters.

Thanks for all of the input!
