Dent spotting!

Hey guys, I'm really digging this forum. Awesome trucks and it has really motivated me with mine. I truly think the Dent Sides are coolest looking trucks ever made. I might be biased because my much older brother had a Ranger back when I was a kid but I know I like them a lot. They definitely haven't been able to match the classic look since.

Funny thing is now I notice dent sides almost everywhere now, I even have a couple of co workers that have them. One is the original owner of a '73 F250 2wd. The other is a '78 F250 project.

After going through a couple of threads that members have posted of their trucks it gave me an idea.

Post pics of, or at least describe, the dents you happen upon going about your daily business, heading to work, running to the store, dropping your kid off to school, etc.

I'll start with a cool High Boy that is always in front of the local grocery and must belong to an employee. I know the headlight/blinker configuration means it's pre-77 1/2 but I can't tell much more than that.

Go to the Forums at the top and hit the drop down menu and ck out the "Spotter's Cards".

Granted not a real smart thing to be sticking things on folks trucks, but figure out a way to spread the word, CAREFULLY!!

I carry them as business cards in my wallet and just stick them in the door pull or window anti rattle track.

I also jot down my FTE user name on the back, so its a little more personal than a random card, makes for better PR IMO. Good thread idea BTW....

I've been surprised by how many dents are in downtown Denver where gas prices are high, and the street so narrow usually only one vehicle at a time can pass, and usually the other person pulls over when they see an old truck coming at them. I've been considering putting a card or something to start like a Capital Hill Ford Truck Exchange, to exchange ideas or locate parts or help each other when working on one of them.

GOVTMOD 04-07-2012 02:54 PM

Funny thing, I was just out running around and I saw about 3 dents I'd never seen before. Managed to get a quick snap of this tired old man. Looks like it has updated seats though.

My co-worker's '78 Camper Special.

A Bronco I pass coming home from work almost every day.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/p...ictureid=97715

There are a couple more I haven't had a chance to snap picks of yet.

jsutton 04-09-2012 11:51 PM

No way for me to get a picture of it probably, but I see a two tone green 78-79 on my to and from work every morning and evening. In the morning I'm headed south and he's headed north, of course the opposite after work.

VocaTexas 04-10-2012 12:18 AM

There are enough dentsides around here that the local NAPA store carries a lot of parts for them. It's rare that I have to have anything ordered when I need something. The owner, a friend of mine and who I bought my '79 from, said there were way more older Fords still running in the area than comparable Chebbies.:-X22

ChiefM 04-10-2012 01:45 AM

No dents in Kosovo, :(

Here's a 73 Crew Cab that belongs to a retired Fire Fighter that I see in my neighborhood every now and then. Sadly not very many dents left around here that are not Gardeners trucks so to see them is a rare sight.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-7...s640/photo.JPG

And a 77 F250.

GOVTMOD 04-12-2012 08:03 AM

My other co-worker's, drove it off the lot, original owner '73 F250. The vintage plates are a testament to that. This is the last of the dents I see regularly.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/p...ictureid=97909

I took my preferred route to work yesterday. I haven't done it in weeks because there is some heavy construction along the way. I go through every so often to see if it's cleared up enough to make it convenient again, it hasn't. But I saw 3 more and managed a pic of this flat bed.

That doesn't bother me. They're future builds, restos or at the very least parts donors. Dents were built to use and seeing one that is still working hard after 3+ decades is awesome no matter how ugly it might be.

miottimouse 04-12-2012 08:13 AM

none around fox creek alberta i bought them all haha

earthquake68 04-12-2012 09:38 AM

There's a beautiful white EC 3/4 ton on the way to the store. I'll see if I can snap a picture of it. One pulled in my driveway yesterday! This belongs to Bob. (Ubereal2)

http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p...onthe66008.jpg

There's also a white '79 1/2 ton 4x4 that goes by everyday. (It may be my old truck, but he never stops in so I can verify that) He just blows the air horn on the way by.

piratius 04-12-2012 09:57 AM

I met up with a guy who's got a '78 F250 at my local NAPA - no pictures, though I should have snapped a cell phone picture.

In my Mother-in-Law's neighborhood, there are at least two (2!) dents that I've seen - one is almost an exact copy of mine (77.5 F250 XLT Ranger Medium Blue). The other was driving by so I only got a quick look.

It's cool that you still see them around!

GOVTMOD 04-14-2012 04:57 PM

One of the Dents I saw at post #11. I was a block away then. Swung by and see it's a F150 Ranger with vintage plates. Apparently hasn't moved in a bit.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/p...ictureid=98109

One off the beaten path as I was avoiding the construction mentioned in #11. Either a parts truck or build candidate. There's a truck in the garage behind it but couldn't make it out.

Here's one I posted some time ago. Its located just a few miles from my house and its obviously in need of some care.

There is a flat black 73 f150 or 100 around the corner from me I need to snap a pic of. I've known this guy for most of my life and used to go to the church his grandpa preaches at. I'm curious if he's on here somewhere

'79Fordpilot 04-15-2012 09:05 AM

Very cool thread idea!

GOVTMOD 04-15-2012 08:45 PM

I just saw a nice brown 2-tone pulling a 2 horse trailer with a camper. I didn't have a chance to snap a pic but perhaps I'll have a chance some other time.

devino246 04-15-2012 08:49 PM

I must see another dent once a week or so. Never get the opportunity to snap a pic, though.

justforkicks 04-15-2012 11:31 PM

There's an orange 73 highboy around my area. Belongs to someone who works at the Wells Fargo store in downtown Ironwood, MI. Also, I saw this red 2wd 76 with a long step side bed in Hurley, WI. And there's a baby blue 76 1/2 ton 4x4 with a flatbed running around Ironwood. Had snapped a pic of the orange highboy, but the photo never made it on any site.

PapaBearYuma 04-16-2012 12:52 AM

About once a week, some snowbird has a 78d or 79 F250 or F350 parked in front of Round Table. Judging by the out-of-state plate, and the fifth wheel tailgate, I'd venture he's a snowbird with a fifth wheel. One day, I'll go chat him up...

GOVTMOD 04-16-2012 08:35 AM

I just passed a black square light 4wd going the other way dropping my kid off to school.

GOVTMOD 04-18-2012 09:00 PM

Saw this one yesterday when I had to swing by a friend's work. Had to swing by again tonight and it was there still/again.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/p...ictureid=98349

I saw a couple more running up to the wrecking yard to get some brake drums. A Bronco and one or two pick ups. There was one at the yard that was in the "car lot" with the cars that were in too "good" of shape to part out. It actually looked like they were using it as a parts runner.

They have a few dented dents piled up in the yard. One of which has a pristine black bumper with the factory tubular brush guard. I was on the way to work and I couldn't take it. Not to mention I have no way of taking a complete bumper right now but maybe I can snag the brush guard next time I'm there.

GOVTMOD 04-20-2012 08:09 AM

A suspected dent

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/p...ictureid=98412

I'm getting pics at an approx. 1:3 ratio. I saw the black 4wd again as I was coming back from the kid's school. I'll get him one of these days. I also saw a very nice brown 2-tone. It was in a driveway and the driver was chatting to someone, decided not to stop and take a pick of that one. I've actually seen several bump sides but.....

I have to go back to that wrecking yard today. I'll see if I can't get a pic of the junk yard dog.

GOVTMOD 04-20-2012 01:47 PM

Good news! The junk yard dog was still there.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/p...ictureid=98424

And so was the brush guard that is going home with me some day.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/p...ictureid=98425

Bad news the drum I picked up is not good enough to turn so I'll be going back.

I did see this one as I was turning into my 'hood on the way home. I don't remember seeing it before.

hey grab those hub caps next time your there. if there cheap.

NBC-Steve 04-21-2012 12:19 AM

Here's my Dent spotting from the point of view from my dent, An interesting perspective. Here's my neighbors 77 F250 4X2. It has surface rust but other than that it's in a good restoration shape.

I don't think those ones are available, that truck seems to be a runaround for them. I can check to see if they do have some if you need them. They have several dents in the yard and tons of hubcaps.

spikinfool05 04-21-2012 12:45 PM

if there 16s and in good shape let me know thanks.

PapaBearYuma 04-21-2012 11:27 PM

This guy was turning in to Autozone at the same time I was. Fortunately, we were turning into different driveways!

I caught a glance of the driver while parking, so I found him inside the store. Congratulated him on his awesome truck, but he didn't seem chatty, so I let him be.

I know this pic is from kinda far away, but this blue 78-79 was at house down the street from mine. He was gone by the time I could have gotten a closer pic.

Yeah, i guess i cut off the back of the truck. I was using my camera phone in bright daylight-the screen is hard to see. I was also trying to be discrete and not some dent crazy paparazzi stalker!

I noticed that but for some reason I can't see it on the computer at home, weird.

Spied this one in Austin, Texas, while on Vacation with the Wife! She rolled her eyes when I told her I was taking the picture to share with everyone else :)

Couldn't get any closer without feeling like I'd give off the crazy vibe, heh.
