F150's with 6.2's
Interested in hearing from guys with the 6.2 in their F-150's. How they like it, mileage, why you choose it over the other motors ect. ect. is it worth the $4500 up charge-- seems a little steep to me on fords part- just wondering if its worth it.

I love my 6.2. I test drove it back to back with an Ecoboost several times on 2 different afternoons before I purchased my truck, and just felt the V8 roar was intoxicating and addictive. I think the upcharge is goofy (I got a fair deal on my truck after rebates so I'm not really complaining) considering the 6.2 crate motor is cheaper than either the 5.0 or Ecoboost, but I like the exclusivity and having a (relatively) rare motor in my F150. I'm averaging 15 MPG right now (4x2, 3.73 rear end).
Is it worth it? For me it was, but I don't know your situation or needs. I understand if you're towing a lot, the Ecoboost has more torque earlier in the RPM band than either V8 offering (reducing the need to downshift as often). |
I wonder what other things in the truck are upgraded for the 6.2? Radiator, tranny, what?

I tow- enough I guess, pulling tractor that weighs in at 8500 is the biggest but now that I changed tractors and got a step deck for my peterbilt- I dont forsee that happening anymore. Couple trips out west snowmobiling and then just the every so often I throw my heavy car trailer on it for what ever. I just really cant see owning a V-6 I know I hear alot of good things about the motor- but a V-6- thats just killing me. My neighbor has a 5.0 and shes getting in that 15 range (will be a 4x4 with 3.73's) and I guess If I'm going to get 15 I'm going to have the big v-8. My biggest worry is that in a year or two they will be putting alot more of the 6.2 in them- and then you dont have that "rare" v-8 at trade in time. Sort of aiming at a used Harley or possibly a limited, because you just dont see the 6.2 in the used lariats much. But IF I have to I guess I'll be looking at ordering a new one when the time comes. Just gearing up for a trade in under a year and it will take me that long to make up my mind anyway but I like to go in knowing EXACTLY what I want. |
The 6.2 is a $1,900 upgrade over the 5.0 here in Canada. According to the Ford.ca website, you can only order the 6.2 in Lariat, Platinum or Harley trim...does the $4,200 upgrade include the higher trim package in the US?

Now...I am visiting the FORD site...and build it now feature. The 6.2L adds $2410.00 over the Ecoboost. It adds $3680.00 over the 5.0L. If you are adding the Lariat +++ trim levels to the cost of the 6.2L...that is another story. biz ;) |
I tow a cargo trailer, roughly 7500lbs, about 30,000 miles a year currently with a 2004 f150 5.4. I am looking to upgrade this year. Thought I might get a superduty with the 6.2. I am self employed and gas mileage is a consideration and it occurred to me that the lighter f150 with the 6.2 would get better mileage, is that a fair presumption ? I have been reading about the ecoboost and I understand that it is good for towing, but would it be better than the big V8 ? love to get some feadback on this.
