Spindle suggestions
Hey guys, some of you may remember a while back I replaced the wheel bearings, and wheel seal on the front right side of my truck, but could not get the spindle off to do the spindle bearing and seal. My truck also needed brakes and I finally got around to doing the brakes yesterday, but when I took off the front right hub, again it was filled with dirty water. I know the bearings and seal are new, so it must be coming from the spindle. My problem is that I still cannot get the spindle off of the truck! I've removed the six bolts, hit it with PB, the torch, slammed a chisel between the mounting surface with a 3lb hammer and still it will not move.
I have to figure out how to get it off of there so I can replace the bearing and seal! Anyone have some suggestions? Usually I have no trouble with rusty stuff but this one is giving me a heck of a time! Keyul |
Double up the spindle nuts and use a slide hammer, it'll pop right off with a few blows.
I believe I mentioned this method last time. It's the only way I do it and it doesn't damage anything. |

Went to the parts store, rented a 5lb slide hammer, the guy also brought out a 4X4 spindle puller adapter that threaded right onto the spindle! Amazing how easily it came off, check it out:

Slide hammers are great. You will be suprised at how many applications they have. The 8.8 rearends need one to remove the axle bearings. They are useful when pulling tranny pumps also.
