2012 Chassis Cab

Just turned 1400 miles on my 2012 F350 4x4 Chassis Cab. Best economy so far empty is 14.2 calculated manually (4.10 geared). Truck rides great on smooth roads, otherwise very stiff. This is my 12th light duty diesel. I understand the CC's are only 300/660 HP/TQ or maybe 325 HP but the truck seems sluggish. I am going to wait till I get a few more miles and pull my 30' dual tandem flatbed loaded before I make a judgement. I guess I am just looking for feedback from other 6.7 Chassis Cab owners.
Does anyone know if the exhaust valve problem I read about on the Chassis Cabs applies to the 12's?
Has anyone done anything or considered doing anything about increasing the HP/TQ levels towards the non-chassis cab ratings? Or have opinions on that?
I am about to change oil. I generally do this between 1000 and 1500 miles the first time on a new engine. I normally use Rotella in my farm tractors and larger trucks. Does anyone have any input on oil for the 6.7?
Thanks in advance, Bob

Well, I only have about 1,000 miles on my 12 450, but I was fortunate enough to be able to run it 300 miles b4 the body went on and it ran like a ra*ed ape! After the body, not so much and I though the same thing. I then loaded it a couple times and found out although it didn't run any faster off the line, it didn't run any slower. In other words, you could hardly tell that you had a load, cept maybe the ride quality. It also maintains speed up and down hills effortlessly while maintaining 6th gear. As far as changing the oil, stick with what ford says and the truck will tell you (usually 5k) No need to change early with these engines. Hop that helps.

I have 11,000 miles on my 2011 now. Almost all the miles are pulling my 33' fifth wheel from Kansas to Northern California. This truck pulls the 5th wheel effortlessly and I've had no problems to date. The truck has never been back to a dealer since I took delivery. 4.10 LS in mine and I get 18.5-20.5 mpg empty and 9.5-12.5 mpg when towing. I never drive over 60mph even when empty.

I hardly ever get out of 6th when towing. My dealer sells a lot of farm use chassis cabs, mostly with flat beds and hydraulic hay hooks. Lots of heavy stock trailer pulling. Only one 6.7 has come in with anything serious and that one had over 2 quarts of water in the fuel tank (HPFP was toast).

I guess the truck only has 300 hp, I sure have never needed more. However, I know a lot of the young guys here push their trucks much harder, I'm too old for that. So, plenty of power for me. We love the truck and the aluminum bed, it is a "5th wheel pulling machine".

Good Luck,

Jim

Fogot about the oil. I use Rotella 15-40 only, and have for eight years with Ford diesels. My dealer says it's OK, since I pull across the desert pulling the fifth wheel in 110 degree summer heat. That is about all the use the truck gets.
