Oil drain plug

Hi guys. My oil drain plug won't tighten. It just spins and spins. It had a bunch of plumber's tape on it, obviously a P.O. knew about it. A new oil pan is the only solution that I can think of. Is there a common and cheaper fix?

they make kits that fix stripped oil pan threads. you retap the hole and then you install an oversized plug. or you could be really hillbilly and weld a nut on the bottom of the pan over the hole and plug it with a bolt and soft washer. no offense to any hillbillys of course.

Hillbillies are people too - aren't they?

drill/tap or get one of those expandable rubber plugs

Happened to me first time I changed the oil in my 223. Town is a 24 mile round trip so I put a 3/4" length of fuel line over a round head bolt, maybe 5/16 or whatever fit, stuck it in the hole, held the threaded end with vice grips and expanded the rubber plug. There was a washer both sides of the rubber. The free version of the one f250racer suggested. Never leaked a drop. You could double nut it or use a nyloc nut if it made you feel safer......

There are two different sized oversized drain plugs sold by parts stores. These plugs cut their own threads, so there is no need to drill and tap.
