Wrist pins
 

This may go better in the motor forum but i'll try here first-anyone had any luck pressing in wrist pins to match up with new pistons? I saw a couple of you-tube videos where you heat up the connection rod. My concerns are hot hot without changing metal strengths and how long do you have before it cools too much to slide in. Any help will be great!

When I was getting ready to put new pistons on I didn't dare tackle this. An engine builder with 30+ years experience was helping me and he didn't either. Take it to a machine shop where it can be done properly. There are some things that should be done by the professionals and this is one of them. Machine shops have a "rod heating fixture" which heats the small end of the rod evenly all the way around.If it's not heated properly you might not get the pin all the way through the piston on the first try.Thats where you'll run into problems.It would be nice if you could practice on some "old" pistons first.

For what most machine shops charge to press wrist pins, it's worth it to keep from cracking a rod or piston.

So, the moral of the story is, if you don't have the proper equipment take it to someone that does. I think I was charged maybe $5 a piston.

I'd have to agree with everyone in here, if you don't have the correct equipment, take them to a machine shop. It only takes a couple minutes per assembly. I've taken old ones apart knowing I would never use them and a small burr ruined the rod (they were going in for scrap anyway).
