OH!!! Spark plug broke off in the motor!!!
:-banghead:-banghead:-banghead Well I was changing my spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor and was going to set the timing, but the third plug I pulled out on the passenger side decided it wanted to stay put in the head!
It didn't even give much resistance. The other plugs were way harder to get out, this one was just like pop...right off. Anyone have any suggestions? I was all pumped to have a nice 65 degree day to work on the truck but now I am not feeling to good!! http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/...urpassside.jpg http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/...brokenplug.jpg http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/...luginhead1.jpg http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/...pluginhead.jpg Any advice would be much appreciated! |

Wow them things were rusty. The correct size easy out and a little luck and it should come out. Hopefully the electrode down there just bends down and doesn't break off. I would soak it with liquid wrench or PB blaster first. Use a quality easy out, not a cheap one.

yeah its a little rusty in there! Are you anticipating easy outs like these:
NAPA AUTO PARTS or these: NAPA AUTO PARTS |
The bottom one is the style I had in mind. But the top one has a better drive(wrench or socket) end on it. Whatever you feel like trying I guess. Just try to get the proper size.

Go out & buy this stuff called Kano-Kroil. I had this EXACT scenario on my 5.8 motor...3 of the plugs did this! I really thought all was hopeless. I went to a machine shop to see what the damage would cost me to have them remove the plugs...the head guy there recommended Kroil and swore to me that if I used it, I would not be back to his shop. He was 100% right. It ended up costing him a job that he probably did not want to do! lol..but it worked! Let it sit & penetrate over night. Maybe even all day, but it WILL come out. Don't waste your time with PB blaster or the like...it won't work. While it is good stuff, its not suited for something this bad...go with Kroil...ya gotta trust me on this!

Roger Also I have been trying to get this plug out, but i can't get any sockets or wrenches to hold on the end of the spiral extractor...just keep rounding off the extractor end. I guess its made to be used with a drill chuck or a tap wrench. Any other suggestions on a type of extractor i can use? I bought a 4 sided tapered one , but its too larger and I also bought a spiral extractor...the spiral extractor bits well but as I said above i can't get anything to hold it w/o rounding off the end used to turn it. So i guess in the morning I will try and get some kano kroil and a correctly sized 4 edge tapered extractor, I like the idea of not having it expand the threads and make it harder to turn. Any advice here? this sucks bad! I got the other 7 plugs out and replaced it just this one pain in the butt. |

Yeah I saw that, was wondering if anyone has found it locally...i can't seem to find anyone local.

If you have a Graingers locally I *think* they still sell it...that's where I got mine, but that was a while back.....
