5 Star Per/Tow Tune?
Lately, I have seen several posts where the OP states that they are using a (fill in the octane) per/tow tune. It reads like this is just one tune for towing or performance. When I ordered my tuner and tunes from Mike, there were separate tow and performance options. Are these performance/tow tunes something new, or are the posters just stating that they are using either a performance or tow tune?

I'm not an expert on the subject, but I just bought tunes and it was a single tune for performance and towing. I also got an economy tune to mess around with also, but after loading up the perf/tow tune, I'm thinking I 'll stick with this for a while.

I have 3 tunes, 93tow, 93performance and 87tow
But to find out the 100% correct answer, ask Mike. |
I think the Perf/tow tunes are only for towing under a certine weight like 8,000 lbs. If towing heavier you need just the Tow tune. Not sure on the weight check with Mike at 5 STAR. My 3 tunes are 87perf/tow - 89 perf/tow & 91perf/tow. My 24ft toy hauler weighs 7,000 lbs fully loaded.

The Tow and Performance tunes are separate. The performance is mainly for when empty or lightly loaded and the tow is for towing.

With Mike, I don't think there is any set-in-stone definition for each one. It all depends on what you want, and what Mike names them in the device :-X22

If I remember right from ordering mine, the main difference between performance and tow is that while they both hold on to gears longer and rev higher, the tow one is more reluctant to go into o/d than the perf one.

Straight from Mike himself: "5 speed trans trucks with tow/haul mode tune can be perf/tow tune based on that mode of operation, 4 speed trans trucks have separate tunes perf and tow shift and converter patterns change."
