03 expedition randomly dies

My wifes 03 expedition seems to die at random. She said it will mainly do it when slowing down to a stop but has done it while driving. It usually cranks back up with one or two tries. No CE light. Does it every couple of days. Is a 4.6. Any ideas?

Start by cleaning the IAC valve. When it gets dirty it doesn't move smoothly so the idle can end up being too low to keep the engine running if your foot is not on the gas pedal.

I actually had it off the other day when I was cleaning out the egr passages. It didnt appear to be really dirty; a thin layer of black dust. I can go ahead and try it. What should I use? I have some really aggresive degreaser that I got from the refinery, not sure if that will damage it though.

I just use carb cleaner. Keep in mind that sometimes cleaning isn't enough, they do go bad from time to time.
