Will a 1987 6.9 diesel fit in a 1993 351 V-8
 

I am wondering if I can take a 6.9 Diesel out of a 1987 F-250 and put it in a 1993 F-350 that has a 351 gas V-8 has anyone done it and how did it go. Thank You!

I don't see why it wouldn't fit. The transmission won't bolt up from the Windsor, so you'll need the diesel transmission. If you have the whole 87 it should be a pretty easy swap. Out of curiosity, why are you swapping out the 351?

You'll have alot of wiring issues since the 93 is computer controlled and the 87 isn't.

I do have the whole 87 truck would that help the wiring issue

I'm not sure what wiring issues you would have. you should be able to get it to run in the truck no problem.

I was thinking about the dash. With the 93 being the digitaldash and the 87 not. Dot know if the gauges would work or not. Then there's the computer for the 351/tranny.

I would almost pull the cluster and run a new set of aftermarket gauges but then gain I don't know how hat it would be to get the gauges to work

I understand what you're saying...The temp and pressure gauges I'm not sure about. The speedo should still work. RPMs should work if it gets hooked back up. The fuel level gauge, I dont know I guess. A new tank and set up for diesel would need to be put in, so in theory it should work. If the speedo works, the Odometer should work too I think.
By the way, 6.9s are good pulling motors.

I forgot the speedo was of the rear diff not the tranny.

I had a 6.9l in my old 85 f250. That thing would pull what ever I put behind it as long a I didn't want to get here fast lol

The 93 is not a digital dash ... Electronic yes, Digital no.

It can be done, Mechanically easy, Though it would be a wiring hack job!

The best way would be to find a 92-94 Diesel truck that you can get the wiring and dash out of.

Engine frame stands will have to be swapped and possably the crossmember to be modified for the diesel to fit.

For the electronics ,just pull off the sensors from the 351 and put them on the other engine so the guages will work using the orginal 351 harness. Just remove the wires that are for the EFI and leave the reset alone.

Sounds like a lot of work for a minimal gain. A good running 351 can pull almost anything you can put behind it...the limits of the chassis and suspension arrive before the power ends. Remember the 6.9 is not turbocharged.

6.9 Diesel: 170hp, 338lb-ft
5.8 EFI V-8: 210hp, 317lb-ft

The only place you might gain a little is in fuel economy, but that is erased by the higher cost of diesel fuel.
