6.0L heater hose help needed
 

So, my faithful FICM has failed...again. It was repaired in November. Whatever...its warrantied.

Upon removal, I noticed a heater hose that runs back there and comes off of a tee under the reservoir and goes to a hard line along the top of the firewall and into the cab. The picture shows which one. Its either melted or chafed...and it appears very thin. I have no idea what it could chafe on and even less of a clue about what could melt it right there, but thats what it looks like.

How do I go about dealing with this? Cut it and put a 'splice' in it with two hose clamps or do I have to replace the whole thing. It looks pricey because its crimped onto the hard line.

Or, do I just not worry about it and hope it never leaks there? Its soft and pliable and the melt mark does not seem to go to the threads or belting.

could it have been rubing on the FICM or its mount???

I know a few folks have just cut it at the bad spot and spliced it with pecks parts

My coolant filter tyes back into that line I got all the parts from Home Depot plumbing stuff the pecks fitting and just used hose clamps

If you need to replace a section of hose most auto part stores sell bulk heater hose for cheap

as long as its not leaking at the Metal to rubber hose union a splice should be fine Iv never had any issues with mine and been running it for 15K

Hows you batterys and Alternator if there weak that could be taking the FICM out

Did you have the old FICM rebuilt or replaced with a FORD OEM part. The Ford units still have the same weak soilder joints

Ed did the FICM the first time and I got the warranty. We have verified voltages and concluded that there must just be another thing that failed in the FICM...it does happen.

Is the heather hose 3/4"? If not, what size barb do I need?

Out of curiosity why do you think the FICM Is bad again???? (did it throw a DTC) or something????????



Honestly I cant remember what size hose and pecks fitting I used (a 3/4 or 1 inch heater hose and fitting) I just used a Tapemeasure

Hey Blade35 and others did you use pex tubing to splice w/clamps or the brass barb style fitting??? Installed coolant filter but cut my heater hose to close to a "hose attachement" sooooo T will not go deep enough into hose due to internal fitting...thanks for any help/advice

I used Automotive heater Hose wit Pex Barb fitting

It helps to keep the hose from rubbing on the FICM.

Cut close to a heater "module" hopefully clamps are tight enough. A work in progress....

I just noticed the same leak on my X. Thanks to the search button, F-T.com gave me the solution. I cut the bad part out of the heater hose and used a 3" piece of 1/2" CPVC pipe with two hose clamps. Works great. I also took the bad 1" piece of heater hose and wrapped it around the CPVC pipe to act as a buffer so the FICM bolt does not wear into the CPVC

Just for reference. 5/8" copper tubing is 3/4" on the OD. I have some and used it when I built my shut off valve / coolant filter bypass. I keep a length in my trucks emergency kit with some clamps. A few decades back I was in Detroit with my E-150 doing motorcycle accident reconstruction and came out of the hotel to find green fluid under my truck. Luckily I had some tools and extra coolant to make a quick repair, but my vehicles always have hose repair kits in them.
