Actually, you have the ability!

Just go get yourself this CD copy of the 1980/89 FoMoCo Light Truck Parts Catalog, learn how to use it (peeps here can prolly teach you), then look up parts availability on partsvoice.com. :)

Thank you, Chris. It's very helpful for members that you and mikeo0o0o0 (73/79 forum) are also typing obsolete part numbers, searching for them and then posting the info who has them.

Posting parts catalog pics is another plus!

Mike has even helped me! Some guy in the 351M/400/Cleveland forum was looking for a pulley with a D3AE or some such prefix, I asked Mike, he found like superseded part number and 3 places that had it. :)

I learned all this stuff from you. :)

Diesel_Brad 03-01-2012 09:20 AM

thanks for the info guys:-X22

How did he find the superceded part number since he...like you, has no O-S-I catalogs? Mike's using the 1973/79 hipoparts.com CD catalog that was scanned from an early 1979 edition, has errors and omissions.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, I have this version. the 1981 version and the last version (10/88), all on microfiche.

Most likely, the superceded part number was furnIshed by yours truely (I've done this for Mike countless times) since I do have Obsolete-Supercede-Interchange catalogs.

I don't know, I'd ask him.

HERE is the thread I'm talking about.

Mike came up with the part number all by himself, there is no superceding part number, because...

:-X15 (sigh) Hey :-newbie partsguy, did'ja read what the OP typed?

He said that the 'part' number is D3AE-6312-AA .. but thought that had been replaced by D4AZ-6A312-A

So, Mike looked up part number D4AZ-6A312-A it sez in the catalog to use with pulley marked with ID ENGINEERING NUMBER D3AE-6312-AA

The OP took D3AE-6312-AA off the pulley itself, was unaware that there are no Ford part numbers marked on parts after 1956, so what he really posted was the ID ENGINEERING NUMBER!

If I had seen this thread, I woulda known from the get-go that with a prefix of D3AE it could not be a part number.

Any more questions?

ctubutis 03-01-2012 02:21 PM

All I did is look up 6A312 in the 80-86 book, found what was listed there and how they were marked, and saw reference to 70s stuff by the OP so I asked Mike to look into it.

Neither ID engineering number: D3AE-6312-AA nor Ford part number D4AZ-6A312-A is listed in the 1980/89 light truck parts catalog (3/94 final edition - Text Section 60.6 351M/400, page 5).

The blatant clue, Sherlock is...that with a prefix that ends in an E, it's not a part number, it's an ID engineering number...it's as simple as that.

Most peeps are unaware that there are no part numbers marked on parts after 1956, despite the fact that I've typed this same jazz prolly 1000 times here on FTE. :-X15

This is one a the reasons why I'm a crabby 'ol grouch, cuz some peeps don't pay attention and some have the memory span of a Basset Hound, which is usually less than 20 seconds.

I know this cuz I have 5 of them now, had 8 others over the past 15 years that have crossed over the rainbow bridge. No one in their right mind needs any!

And then there are peeps like me, who do remember that these numbers are not actual part numbers, but unfortunately we haven't quite grasped ID Engineering Number into our heads as the correct term, and in our search for the correct word, the only one we can come up with is Part number.
