hey guys, so i bought a new truck, 95 7.3 powerstroke, ext cab. so im sadly selling my 97 reg cab (in my photo). so what im woundering is will my TS performance 6 position chip from my 97 work with my 95 or is it year specific or something???

thanks Big red_11

As long as the transmission is the same.

thats good news. i was worried because on the site when you buy it you have to tell them what year and trans, they both have E4ODs.

i thought the 97s had different computers in them because of slight changes in the engine control?

The '97 does have different stock PCM programming, however chip tuners use the '97 programming for their base programming. Essentially when you plug a TS style chip into an older Powerstroke PCM, it updates the programming to the TDE1 base programming with the tunes.

Unless stock TS tuning is different, you will need to have the same trans AND pcm code. The PCM code is a 4 digit code on the side of the PCM. With other tunes on TS chips it can screw with the pcm if the chip is burned to a different code

so when i do that then potentially the truck should run smoother then, refresh my memory what is the main differences between the 97s and the others, was it the HPOP? besides the radiator being metal on the 95 and more power on the 97 everything else seems the same.

Have you noticed that when you order a TS style chip you don't have to put in your PCM code for an OBS, but you do for a Super Duty? That is because as long as the transmission is the same, you can cross years on an OBS.

The HPOP was different and the glow plug cycle is different. Other than that, there are no major differences.

yeah thats what i was wondering, im assuming thats why they ask you what year it is so they can get you a compatable one for your PCM

mjonesjr 02-21-2012 09:34 PM

Best thing to do is call a tuner and ask.

k thanks boys, im just looking at the ts site right now and it looks like there is just one part number for 95 to 97. so maby ill try it out in the next few weeks and let you guys know

There were a few things changed for 96. The edge filter was moved from the IPR to the HPOP. The water pumps are different. The heads were changed to accept 10 bolt intake plenums. And the valve covers are thicker with a layer of sound deadening material between the inner and outer layers. CPS sensor contacts were changed from tinned to gold. EOT sensor is different. Oil pressure and HPOP fill plug threads were changed from NPT to STOR. There's probably more but that's all I can remember.

I bought a TS chip from PHP. I needed to give my code. And i know of people who had the wrong PCM code and had problems. So it must be a TS only thing because it will cause problems with other tunes

Ran my TDE1 TS chip in a TDE0, naw4, and now an ALF4 pcm. The ALF4 is the only one to give me problems cuz its a 5-speed. The chip over rides everything in the pcm so the pcm code doesn't matter.

Stick it in the 95 the worst thing that can happen is the truck won't start then you would need a reburn
