65 F250 4x4 cab difference
 

Lookin @ getting a 65 F250 4x4, the cab is rough but the engine, frame, trans & transfer case is good. The person I talked to said the cabs are different between 2wd & 4wd. He said the the step when you open the door is higher. I know about the wheel wells being larger but not to sure about the step into the cab being higher. Also what about the frame are they the same or different. Can anyone shed alittle light on this.

Cab step: 1961/64 F100/250 2WD/4WD / 1961/66 F350/1100 / 1965 F100/250 4WD / 1966 F250 4WD.

No cab step: 1965/66 F100/250 2WD / 1966 F100 4WD.

When you open the doors on these ^ ^ trucks, the first thing you see are the rocker panels welded to the floor pan, lower section of the A & B pillars.

Excepting the front section of the rockers where they are welded to the A piller, there is about an inch difference between the rockers and the floor pan, so...

Unless you're an ant, there is no perceivable step up.

1965/66 F100/250 129" wheelbase 2WD's use the same frame. 1965 F100 4WD frame is different than 1966 F100 4WD, which has coil spring front suspension.

1965 F250 4WD frame is basically the same as 1966 F250 4WD frame.

So a 65 f250 2wd cab will fit on a 65 4x4 frame.

The rear mounts may bolt on but the front will not............. different mount all together.

Did I say that? No...all I did was type the differences. Read the last line inre to F250 4WD frames, which are not the same as F250 2WD frames.

Here is a pic of a 63 4wd F250 frame where the cab would sit. You will see the two front cab mounts. This is pretty much the same frame that your 65 4wd will have.

The cab mount on the drivers side is the frame bracket just behind the shock tower. Your 2wd cab will not mount onto this bracket as the mounts come off of the front of the cab.
Under the 4wd cab with the step that was mentioned previous there is a cab floor brace and cab mount brace that sits into these frame mounts.

If you will look just to the left of the 2x4 in this pic you will see where the cab on the 4wd mounts. This is completely different from the 65 or 66 2wd cab mounts.

What would it take to make it fit?

making new cab frame mounts for the front and steering column relocation through the firewall... maybe other things as well

I belive the steering column is different also, a 4wd steering box is located in front of the axle, a 2wd is located behind the axle so the 2wd steering column will be at a steeper angle.

I'm thinking about replacing my cab on my 64 4x4 are all the cabs that use the same cab mounts as the 67-72 trucks do they all have no step inside the door?

yes... infact the same floor stamping was used from 65 to 72 in the ford trucks.

Good to know I like having the step there I was thinking about swapping cabs to one that has the same floor and cab supports as the bump sides because i want to put my 64 on a 70's frame but don't want to lose the step so alittle more fab work to make it fit right is what Ill end up doing

A lot more fab work for zero gain. Your 64 F250 4x4 frame is about the same as the frames to 77.5.
