1975 to 1979 F100
 

This is my first posting so dont be to harsh on me. I rebuilding a 1975 F100 and have found to much rust in the cab to deal with , a friend of a friend has a good cab with no rust in it that head will sell me fairly cheap. my query is are all the parts interchangeable or is there some type of structual difference ? I am hoping to use the 1979 cab and the rest of the panels off the 1975 model and also some of the running gear. Can anyone tell me is this possible.

welcome chambo61! you've come to the right place for plenty of friendly help with your Dent.

Yes, the cabs are interchangeable. No fabrication or alteration required. Depending on what's left inside the '79 you may need to install the heater assembly from the '75. Others here will know if there's any issues with where the holes are in the cab where the heater core tubes go through the firewall. I'm pretty sure they're the same.

One thing to keep in mind, the steering column from your '75 uses a different trim collar than the '79. Keep them both, you can use either. The column will both up to the dash the same way in both cabs.

As you take the '75 apart, take plenty of pictures if your not familiar with how it goes back together. The pictures will be helpful for that question "what in the h#$@ is this and where the h#$@ does it go" that will come up.

Put fasteners in a bag and label it. This way you'll know where/what they're for when re assemblying.

Don't throw anything away until your done.

thanks for the info , I will ring oldmate tommorrow and tell him I will take the 79 model, I made the mistake when i pulled the 75 model apart that i didnt bag and label all the parts. I might be able to redeem myself on the second time around. I did take heaps of photos but I dont believe I took enough.
I am still finding my way around this forum site and feel that I have buried this question to deep for the general user to find.
I will keep in contact as I beleive you will be a great source of knowledge.

The only thing you will need to know is if the cabs have air cond or not. If the new ca comes complete it wouldn't matter anyway but if it's not complete and it had air you will have a huge hole in the firewall.

Going to pick up the cab on thursday,got him down to $900 dollars which I reckon is alright. Wil take heaps of pictures and start to post them from beginning to end . All I need is for some one to explain to me as how I down load them to this sight or is there a tutorial that explains it some where. I only got the Cab for $900 because I explained to him that the F100 , when finished will stay in my family forever , I wont be a do up and sell type of person, it will be a "hand me down" and I reckon once will be enough.

One other question , Ford was never realy big on puting power steering on the early model F100's so do you know if there is a power steering box that will fit the 1975 t0 1979 F100, remembering that I drive on the Right Hand side of the road ?

Wow does $900.00 seem like alot to you I bought a complete running truck for that amount. Here in AZ. I have seen them for as low as a couple hundred bucks. Granted the one your buying may be complete and I not sure how complete the ones here are, but there rust free. I personally think thats high you might do some research and find one for a better price. I don't know. Good luck and welcome to FTE

JJJ, he's in AU. I thought cheaper at first too because I was looking at a cab in VA for $350

Yeh , there are not a lot of them around out here. USA is the home of the F100 as you could probably and the parts are a lot cheaper. I would love to be able to buy parts say from LMC trucks and get the shipped to AUS but the transport is so costly. You can add about 100% to 200% mark up on anything that you see in the USA by the time it is shipped to Australia. What I am going to have to do is cut up 2 x cabs to get one good one . I want to do this one right so I dont have to do it again. Does anyone know of a cheap way to get parts delivered cheap to AUS? My son has a couple of days off before he starts full time university so he is going to give me a hand. . A mate of mine has an old 1971 F350 with no rust and no motor for a couple of hundred dollars and he is trying to convince me to give it another life , who knows what might happen?

HIO Silver and many others have discussed this topic numerous times in detail. I do encourage you to review these however keep in mind the whole right hand steering issue you have means you will have to figure some of this out for yourself. As the others have stated you are welcome to post away here and we will try to respond with any wisdom we may have.
