Sounds like starter not disengaging
 

I got my 7.3 1994 powerstroke to run but now i hear like a winding noise. I believe its coming from the starter or the fly wheel. It hasn't been drove for a while any idea if i should drive it a little and see what happens?

ok just checked the starter is not disengaging the starter gear is still on the flywheel any idea what could be messed to keep it from disengaging

Bad starter

Its not the starter cause i took the wire that leads to the starter coming from the fender mounted solenoid and it disengaged, and my batt light is on and i'm not to good at mechanics but does that have to do with the fender mounted solenoid to?

Then I would can the solenoid and see what happens. For the batt light chech the plug on top of the alt.
