Possibably getting a new 6.2 sooner than I thought
Hey guys,Like the title says I might be getting a new 6.2 here soon.
I'd be getting crew cab short bed 4x4 with 4:30's.I won't be towing much and the truck would be unloaded 99% of the time and would be used as a daily driver. My question too you guys is,Could I expect to get 13 MAYBE MAYBE 14 MPG in the city and say 16-17 MPG Highway?Or am I asking to much? And yes,I know,Gas mileage and superduty shouldn't be used in the same sentence!!!!But I asked....So enlighten me please!!! |
I have that setup and avg 12 city and have gotten as high as 16 hwy, mostly 14 though in the hills of East Tennessee. That is hand calculated averages.
|
My cousin averages 11mpg city on his 250 unloaded.
|
Thanks guys for the info!Anybody else care to chime in?
|
My.02, you'll never see those numbers. But you won't care once you get it, lots of fun to drive.
I'm averaging 10mpgs city, 13/14 hwy. |

if your not gonna be towing much and want this truck for a daily driver why not go with the 3.73's?

If you want to squeak out a little more MPG, you should look at the 3.73.
|
I was thinking...With lower operating costs with the gasser a drop in mileage may just end up being a wash compared to a diesel.
|
Diesel fuel costs more, the engine is a $7800 upgrade and the maintenance costs more. But the MPG are higher. And there is more torque.
You probably want to break out the calculator and see if the diesel makes sense based on how many miles you drive a year, the maintenance costs, fuel costs, etc. Before I ordered my 2012, I thought about a 2011 leftover diesel since the rebates were huge. My truck is mostly a daily driver like yours will be, and a gas version is already overkill. Getting the diesel without needing it to pull significant weight frequently was one of the reasons why I skipped it. Also, the emissions stuff, the additives, and some of the stories I've heard also made me go with the 6.2. Also, keep in mind, diesels need to come up to operating temp....short trips and idling are not ideal. |

I agree with what he ^^^ said. This truck is a lot of fun to drive, and I'm using more gas than I should be, LOL. But the highway MPG's are decent in my opinion for a ~7000lb truck.

I was at the dealer get the oil changed for the last time on my 6.0. I told the service guy this was the last time I was paying $90 for an oil change because my new 6.2 would be here in a month. He laughed and said you think that's bad, the new diesel is almost $200 for an oil change.
