Thinking of an E350 7.3L (late 90's) Engine

Need some advice, I have a large 6x6 Ural that I am thinking of putting a 7.3 TDI or the older 7.3 IDI into - I have some questions and figured this would be the place to come -

The 97 E350 7.3 looks like a non-electronic Turbo model I think that the later models with electronics were not introduced until 99 , correct?

What sort of HP and torque could I expect to get ?

What are my options for a heavy duty manual gearbox, I was thinking of a Fuller 10-13 speed ?

I hear that the earlier IDI engines are not real speed demons but bullet proof and ok haulers, is the same for the models put into the E series vans ?

If I do go with a later 7.3 how much work is it to install the electronics?

Thanks in advance for any help you guys can provide.

I don't have a ton of info for all your questions.

The 97 is a powerstroke motor, really not that different from the 99+

To get an IDI you have to go pre 1993.5. And I want to say there were only turbo's on the 93 and 94's factory installed ATS.

There are really not a ton of electronics on the 7.3 powerstrokes though. You would need the PCM, IDM, Dash and all the sensors.

a IDI would be a lot easer to put in, but will be like pulling 5000lbs with a lawnmower.
it way get there but will not have good HP.

94.5-2003 are all DI Powerstrokes... Not going to be an easy swap, but put out good TQ...

Pre 94 are 6.9 and 7.3 IDI... Tough old birds, but not monsters in the TQ wars...

Your 100% best bet would be a 1992-1997 12v Cummins...

I bit the bullet and picked up a relatively low mileage 94 Powerstroke, someone said I will need the dash, that might a problem as the dash in the URAL is totally different, I came across one in the UK that had been converted to a 7.3 late 90's powerstroke. I cannot seem to find the owner to see how he did it. The weight and RPM range seem perfect for my application but the electronics are giving me fits.
