Going to Mt Washington March 3-7, 2012

I'm going to Mt Washington from March 3-7 w/ my son's Boy Scout Troop.:-X22 We are driving from Phila, PA to Main on Sat & sleeping at a vacation home belonging to a Troop family member, on Sun & Mon summiting & sleeping on the mountain, on Mon evening leaving the mountain to return to the cabin & coming home Tues. (Wed is there for safety if needed).

SO, my diesel will be sitting for 2 days in the New England weather (no shelter, no electricity to aid it) and I'm wondering what you guys do to prevent fuel from gelling & aide in the starting of your diesels in the cold up there. OR should I just leave it at home & take a gasser???:'(

I was thinking of putting a tarp over the vehicle to help w/ windchill / snow drifts but IDK what else to do. Thanks for any GOOD advice :-drink (no practicle jokers PLEASE)...

just be sure the glow plugs are working and that the batteries are good.
when you get up here to Maine, try to come in with low fuel and fill up here to ensure you get our blend to keep ya from gelling.
she'll start just fine as long as those are good without any assistance from a block heater.mine always does.

Thanks. A couple of guys down here said to add 10% gas to the diesel, or add a crap load of anti gell to the diesel. Neither really sounds like a great idea to me, especially the specific amount: "crap load". Thanks.
BTW what is diesel going for per gallon up there?

yeah that's what they used to do years ago.no need for that today.its just where you can get in trouble is when you fuel up down south and head up north.it's refined to certain temps.
diesel will run ya about $4.10-$4.25 a gallon i see on gasbuddy.com down around Portland Maine.not sure where your cabin is,hopefully not too far from NH.but thats pretty much what it is up around mid Maine too.

Thanks again, I looked @ gas buddy & mapquest fuel for prices in Main/NH. Around here there are a few stations that never seem to make it on either list and are less $/gallon than those listed.
