How do you rotate tires on a dually ?

I misplaced the owners manual and was wondering how to rotate my tires on my 2002 Super Duty Dually. Do I re-mount the front tires (same rotation direction) with the rear inner tires first. or the outer tires. Oh, aluminum rims. Please help:-huh thanks.

I am not sure how the manual says to rotate them but I am sure that if is a dismount and remount fiasco if you have aluminum wheels, you only have 4 of them and they are only polished on one side. I decided long ago that it wasnt worth the trouble to roatate them and simply swap my fronts side to side at every other oil change to help with cupping (4x4 here) My original rears are about 40% tread @ 81,000 miles. Fronts replaced @ 72,000. Hard to knock that kind of tread life.

Sorry, but I have to post another "I don't know but..." thread. ;)

So here goes... I don't know the procedure, but if you want to get access to your owner's manual, go to http://myford.fordvehicles.com

You need your VIN to login, but it is a cool site with lots of info & features, and has, among other things, electronic versions of your owner's manual. Hope it helps!

Like most dually owners, I don't do a standard rotate of the tires. The inner duals are steel, so unless you want the look of steel and aluminum you can't rotate without demounting and remounting. The slight increase in tire life will never offset the cost of all that tire swapping.

BD;

The dealer and my '03 manual recommend a side-to-side swap only:

"If your vehicle is equipped with dual rear wheels it is recommended that front and rear tires (in pairs) be rotated only from side-to-side, with the rear tire maintaining original vehicle position."

In other words, LF to RF, RF to LF, LR (pair) to RR (pair), etc. This leaves the steel on the inside, without removing the rubber.

Personally, I wouldn't bother. Too much hassle, along with the risk of damaging the aluminum rims.

Good Luck!
