BEAUTIFUL CLEAN MOTOR OIL
Just had my second oil change since removing the DPF. I now have about 300 miles on the new motor oil. I checked it this morning and it is clean and transparent like fresh oil should look. Much better than that soot black stuff I got with the DPF on. Back then I would change oil, start the truck to run the oil into the filter and when I checked it was already black. Same thing with the first change the day I deleted. But now, I'm thinking the oil is cleaner and so are all the little moving parts. Just felt like sharing that.

Yes i have noticed the same since the delete. I feel much better about the internals
,as opposed to recycling exhaust gases and a rich burning condition through the system. |

Just another thing to make me smile about finally deleting my stuff. Wish I had done it long ago but I kept thinking about 100k miles vs 5 yrs. My 5 yrs is june 1st. I have been frustrated past 3 months over the stupid excessive smoke for 2-3 miles and regen every 100 miles with a $50k truck

Now you need to have a analysis done on your next oil change to see what the dilution percentage is. I have been lucky with my dilution rates with the 6.4 they average about 1% in 5K changes with no modifications done.

I sent my sample Thursday. I'm looking forward to the results. I had an oil report after a trip out west through the corn states where they pretty much make you buy biodiesel, 6% dilution. When I got that I went to a radical oil maintence program. That worked OK and I would probably have kept doing it but then I got reflashed (11B23) and the regens got more frequent and more bothersome so I said the heck with it and took the plunge. I think my truck likes it, it just seems happier.

My stock F350 typically gets between <0.5% and 0.5% with 5k changes. My last change was a bit longer than normal at 6k due to an unplanned trip. That trip was ~3,400mi RT pulling a 10k trailer, included a few loads of fuel that were probably bio blend and I ran out of fuel conditioner for the last 900 miles or so of the trip. The report from that oil came back at 1.5%, which doesn't seem bad. Presumably I'll be back to the usual 0.5% on the next normal interval change. The wear metals and whatnot all are very good as well, so I don't think the soot in the oil really matters much, though I do use M1 5W40TD.

If you do not us a oil that takes out the soot you are going to at one time have a soot in motor problem! Oil is supposed to pick up soot and remove on oil change, If left behind it is going to build up inside motor. |

My point was that based on the wear metals in my oil reports, I don't think "beautiful clean oil" vs. "ugly black oil" really matters as long as you are doing proper oil changes. |

The only point I was tring to get out was I had a friend that thought he would save and use car oil. He had problems and changed back to a diesel oil and if you thought oil was black you should have seen his filters for the next oil changes, black and thick film on filter.

I'm still using MC diesel 15W40 API CJ or whatever it is we are supposed to use. I'm only 300 miles on the fresh so maybe it will get darker. There is logic in what you are saying as the source of soot is the EGR. The soot gives the oil the darkness. The oil dilution gives it that runny texture. According to an EPA report on the subject all diesel motors with DPF technology will have some oil dilution. Those using the rear injectors on the exhaust stroke will have more than the ones using the 9th injector. And those using biodiesel will have more because the bio won't "boil" out as much as ULSD. So, I guess if I want real clean oil I need to ditch the EGR too. Food for thought. }>
