CAD Files

If anybody has any good CAD files of something they have built/designed and want to share they could throw it up on here.

I thought cadillac was a G.M product not ford

I made a 79 F150 a few years ago my senior year in high school and still have it, but I have no idea how to put it on here. Made it in Autocad 2008.

devino246 01-25-2012 06:54 PM

I can't stand AutoCAD for 3D. Inventor is 10x easier.

It was all we had at the time. I took a class over solid edge this time last year but never made anything but what was in the book. For my truck in autocad I just drew everything and extruded and subtracted it all to work. Even made a V8 with the pistons and crank, didn't have enough time left though to get everything else made in it.

ChaseTruck754 01-25-2012 07:03 PM

Not sure how you'd get a cad file to show up on here... I've had a hard enough time getting a PDF I made off a cad file to show up on here.

I work in cad (2d) all day long so I draw all sorts of my parts on it as layout that way is much quicker for me than old school cad (cardboard aided design). I still do some stuff the old way though...

PRIMERED79 SHORT BED 01-25-2012 07:13 PM

Arent you posting in the wrong forum?

Cad drawings of 73-79 trucks and related parts, etc.

PRIMERED79 SHORT BED 01-25-2012 07:36 PM

Ok, was just wondering.

NW 150 01-25-2012 07:39 PM

not a prob

I like that !!!
should be able to print a screen capture and post that
if that's what he's looking for
unless he wants your actual files to look at ?

ChaseTruck754 01-25-2012 07:52 PM

my guess is he wanted actual files - but yes a screen capture would work as well.

I'm sitting here staring at my cad screen messing with my frame design for the '38 pickup right now and have FTE open in the other. That would be a sweet capture - haha...

mjshagnasty 01-25-2012 08:03 PM

Yea I was about to say screen capture would definetly be the easiest way. It not more of having the files on hand but more of something to reference if someone needs to look at them.

ChaseTruck754 01-25-2012 08:06 PM

well what kind of stuff are you looking for?

I don't think he was, he hasn't been back to let us in on the joke.

jredline1984 01-26-2012 12:03 AM

Besides screen capture you can also export as a .bmp file and then use paint to save it as a .jpg before uploading to the site.

Well one thing I really would be interested in is a cad with dimensions for those cummins motor mounts you made in your thread, but in general anything. I was thinking it could be a thread where you throw your cad on with a description do if people like it they can accurately recreate that piece if they wanted and don't have to go dig through a 77 page build thread to find something.

I second that motion.

"Top Fuel" Bender 01-26-2012 06:20 AM

77 pages of text is a very little price to pay for the time and effort a guy takes into designing , drawing , building and testing a product
plus you could always bookmark the page if you liked it :-X22

Sorry guys - ain't gonna happen.

I should have MADE the guys make a jig/fixture for them when we made the set for Cheeto so I could sell them. Bummed I didn't & will do it if the motor comes back out of the truck, but at this point I hope that won't happen for a while.

And top fuel - thanks. Glad someone gets/appreciates it.

I appreciate your thread, I've probably read through it a couple times. The fabrication is outstanding and i wouldnt want to see that behemoth of an engine coming out of that truck again lol.

ChaseTruck754 01-26-2012 01:38 PM

Thanks.

The motor has been in in out more times than I care to admit & I really don't want to do it again. I REALLY should have made sure to make a fixture for the motor mounts before they went back in though... Oh well.

Oh - and I didn't even have cad files for the motor mounts until I made the ones for Cheet-o. I did the originals in old school cad (cardboard aided design). I then put those templates in cad when I made cheetos mounts. I can make & sell pieces for the things but without a fixture to weld them in I couldn't guarantee the "new" ones I'd make would come out exactly like the originals.

USArmyTaterness 01-26-2012 01:55 PM

I am going to come by your place and make some adjustments to your motor. Nothing major just enough that you have to pull it.

I know these old fords are tough, but i don't think it could survive the drive from Germany to his house in California lol

USArmyTaterness 01-26-2012 03:07 PM

No but HUMVV's can they break i grab a new one off the truck and keep going.

To add insult to injury the HUMVV is a GMC motor

ChaseTruck754 01-26-2012 03:11 PM

Hope you can hold your breath for a looooooong time during that drive across the bottom of the atlantic.

USArmyTaterness 01-26-2012 03:13 PM

I will bring three of those giant black trash bags filled with air and a bendy straw should be fine.

ChaseTruck754 01-26-2012 03:24 PM

I was thinking just a reaaaaaly long straw but then you'd have to open the window to put it out there & that would let the water in.

USArmyTaterness 01-26-2012 03:30 PM

then I would get cold cause i would be all wet with the air rushing by

TrippingCobras 04-08-2013 10:50 AM

No one has a CAD file?

So I take it no one actually produced the goods for this one.

Killgore 04-08-2013 04:37 PM

well if anyone is interested I could post a couple of pictures of the sub enclosure I built in cad for the truck

XSoph 01-17-2016 07:03 PM

Old thread, I see. Any-who, if anybody has original blueprints for the dent side trucks I'd like to take a crack at digitizing them in CAD. I use this kind of software on a daily basis and would love to mock up my fabrications digitally before building. It would be a lot faster if I could trace some original Ford drawings.

I don't mean the stuff out of manuals. I mean the big table top drawings. I could make do scanning shop manual drawings, but I'll have to spend a lot more time out there measuring an actual truck.

Thanks all.

[edit] I am finding some decent stuff on fortification.com, so bear with me.

jredline1984 01-19-2016 07:51 PM

Reps given for your determination. Are you using a vector tracing software or just a standalone CAD program?

XSoph 01-19-2016 08:00 PM

I'm planning to trace all the 2D materials I can find in AutoCAD, then use that for underlaying the 3D modeling in inventor. I'd like to model individual parts as I go and Inventor is specifically made for that kind of modeling.

Jeremy Kamutzki 01-20-2016 09:27 AM

Hey, I know this is an old thread, but it seems like a great idea! I know there was a problem with putting the files up here, but I was thinking, why don't we just use Google Drive?

I started a public folder on my drive that could be used by everyone to upload/download CAD drawings. I only have one in there right now - A drawing for the intake heating plate for an Offenhauser 360 degree intake for the 300 I6.

The drive is located here, and should be accessible by all. The way that it is set up is that anyone is able to view and download the files that are in this folder, but you are unable to upload files. If you have files that you want to contribute and don't want to put them on your cloud storage or don't have cloud storage, you are welcome to use my folder to upload them to. All you need to do is send me a PM. I'm on here pretty regularly and will get back to you pretty quick. Draw Away!

XSoph 01-20-2016 09:31 AM

Sweet idea. :-X22 There are multiple cloud storage services that offer entry level free accounts. I've got Drop Box, Google Drive, OneDrive. I don't think it really matters what people use as long as the links they contribute function.
