1989 f150 4x4 6'' lift
 
I am looking to lift my 1989 f150 302 5.0 Short wheel base 4x4 manual 5 speed 6''... I already have a 3 inch body lift on it. First of all i am looking at the rough country 6'' lift. Does anyone have one? how do you like it? second and last do I have to make any modifcations to the drive shafts or the tranny cross member?

To do it right and have a 6" suspension lift. You will probably have to do a SAS.

just bolt it on and go. what size tires are you planning on running? have you made any gear changes yet? keeping the BL ?

well i am 17 its my first truck and i know just enough about trucks to get me in trouble so what is a sas? yes i will be keeping the bl i put in on my self and dont care to spend the time to take it off haha... i am planning on running a 35 nitto mt... this is not for mudding just for show and the truck gets driven 3 times a week 20 mi per time so again not worried about gas or loss of power...so the gears are stock

a SAS is a Solid axle swap. If you just going for show, you can probably keep the TTB (Twin Traction Beam), But alignment after the lift will be challenging. Take it to someone you knows does a good job.

I highly recommend 4.56 or 4.88 gearing with the 35's. It will help you out big time on power and mpg. But its your choice.

Also it sounds like you plan on running 35's on a 9" lift. Am I right?

Yes your right because i got a good deal on 35s i should go bigger with 9'' but i could not pass up the deal... what about drive shafts?

I believe your drive shafts will work with out any modifications. If I am wrong someone else will chime in. I am running a 6" Superlift suspension and 35's. I am using my stock drive shafts. Also Kinda wish I went with 37's.

Also be aware that the Dana 44 and 8.8 max tire size is pretty much 35's. Also a TTB Dana 44 is weaker than a Dana 44 solid axle. You might can go up to 37's, since its just for show, but I would not go any bigger.

thank you! now i also read that i might have to cut and weld and "dip" in the tranny cross member b/c the change in the front drive shaft? did you have to do that?

No I didn't have to, But I have a different trans than you, so you might have to. I am running a 351w/AOD combo.

You shouldn't have to modify anything for a 6" lift. However you are installing it on top of a BL so im not 100% (just 99% sure) 9" lift and 35's will look weak. I'd go for the 4" (cheaper too) instead if you are keeping the BL.

I have run Rough Country on other trucks and they are just fine, more then enough for a show truck.

My truck is a 93 F150. I run a roughcountry 6" on it. It's mainly a bolt and go. Comes with the brake lines and shocks too with all the drop bracks and pinion arm you need. I haven't had any driveshaft problems. Worst part was getting the old mounts and brackets off but not to bad with a little torch surgery.

yeah after looking and reading i think i am going to go with a 4''. With that kit do i need to get the dual steering stabilizer? or the anti sway bar?

Those are more personal preference. Since irs a shoe truck you'll prolly want dual stabs. It looks cool. Since it'll be on the road all the time id say keep the sway bar and get drop brackets.

x2. Plus the dual steering stabilizers will help keep the steering wheel in your hand when you hit water puddles on the hwy.
