Fuel Filter Housing Leaking
Hello All,
I have a problem with my fuel filter housing Leaking and I need to replace it. Should I go to the dealer and get a factory one or are there better ones out there? If so tell me where to get them. I have a 2000 F250 4x4 with 265000 on it. Chris |
The real question is where is the leak? Most of us have had to replace the o-rings on the drain valve at least once because they become brittle and begin cracking especially in colder weather.
Look around this site and try to find the parts for what you think is leaking: Replacement O-rings for Ford Diesel Engines Here is instructions for a complete rebuild: Welcome to guzzle's Powerstroke Fuel Bowl Rebuild Web Page Chances are you will only need to do this procedure: Welcome to guzzle's PSD Fuel Filter Drain Valve Repair Web Page Take some time to look around Bob's site and you will learn a ton. |
As Bob had said above. Make sure its just not the lid. Have you or somebody else just changed the filter? After market lids leak all the time.

If it is the cap that is leaking. Put a little motor oil on the top gasket. Just like you would do with the oil filter. Diesel is not a good lub.

Chris Bob (Guzzle) Replacement O-rings for Ford Diesel Engines was very firm about one of the issues of a leaking 'fuel bowl'.... people put the lid on too tight and it distorts the o-ring. Hence, slight leak, but no spray. If you have not had a full fuel bowl overhaul, go ahead and do it as o-rings are a 'wear' item. |

Once you have identified your fuel leak, then you can fix it. Most likely its the drain valve. Here is a video on rebuilding the fuel bowl. But if you want, you can do just the drain valve, which is doable with the fuel bowl in the truck. How To: Fuel Bowl Rebuild - 7.3L Powerstroke - YouTube |
