knocking

why is my 2011 platnium 5.0 motor knocking under light load ,heavy accel, comes and goes been to dealer once already going in again any ideas?

senix 01-11-2012 01:50 PM

poor fuel quality or a knock sensor.

Has to do with timing.

mikfitz 01-16-2012 05:06 PM

`dont think its the fuel filled up many times at different stations simply wont run with out knocking

mikfitz 01-17-2012 03:53 PM

no ideas out here in truckville

Are you getting a Check Engine Light? What did the dealer say the first time? Does it have lack of power? Are you positive it is engine knock?

mikfitz 01-18-2012 03:46 PM

no engine lights ,in the dealership now knocking or pinging is a very peculiar sound and this engine knocks all the time light accel, moderate and heavy accell dosnt matter the octane much worse with 87 which this engine was designed to run on even service tech was shaking his head saying this should not be happening

got to be a sensor out of wack that controls fuel/air mixture and timing.

Is it KNOCKING (like a wrist pin knock) or is it pinging (detonating from too low octane fuel)...there's a big difference.

Exactly what I was asking. Seems likely that he means detonation.

got the truck back today they think its the fuel pump, they ordered the part and told me i could pick up my truck and when the part arrives they will have me bring it in. my question to them was ,isnt knocking bad for the engine and they said dont worry about it

If I were you I would have the technician make a note in the computer stating that you feel the integrity of the engines internals has been compromised due to the excessive detonation. I blew a hole in my number 5 piston in my ranger on startup because of detonation from a bad tune that was running the truck way too lean.

And just to clarify so we are all on the same page if you have a limited supply of fuel you have a lean condition which causes detonation not knocking...

just rereading all the posts my concern is a pinging noise from predentonation ,to the the last poster that was my concern yesterday when they let me take the truck back because i did a little reading on the issue and its something that will damage the motor.so now as i drive this thing am i doing more damage to the engine that is ultmatly going ruin the motor?

senix 01-21-2012 07:03 AM

A few miles will not hurt it. As long as you are light on the throttle.

No WOT or towing.

mikfitz 01-21-2012 01:47 PM

well how many miles is too many miles.condition started around 4900 miles currently truck has 9100 miles on it should i be worried and if so should i ask ford for an extended warranty on the engine?

mikfitz 01-30-2012 05:16 PM

truck went in today new fuel pump going in tommorow hope it cures the issue
