Climate Controls swap.

Im sure this may have been asked but I have searched for over 20 mins and cant find anything.
I just purchased a 2004 Ford Superduty F350 it has everything I wanted except the digital air controls. Id like to know if i could swap out a digital air controls from another f350 or 250 from the same year and have it work or is there more to it then the module itself? thanks for the info and let me know.

Well what all is involved?!

PA-Mark 01-09-2012 07:18 PM

you will need to remove the dash, replace the HVAC box, add the extra wireing harness, new climate control unit (which I have one for sale BTW) and a new radio trim bezel.

Im sure there is more but once I found this much out, I decided i did not need the dual zone anymore. If you are up to the task and have a donor truck then I wish you luck.

I don't want dual zone I want a digital control that's all

PA-Mark 01-09-2012 07:55 PM

my mistake, the only digital controls i have ever seen were in the dual zone control, so i assumed this was what you wanted

I think PA MArk is right that a large part of the system has to be changed in order to have the EATC system whether single or dual zone. There was a thread about this a while back.

I have 2 different fords with that style auto climate controls and do not think I want another. Its great when it works but the control head is not very reliable IMO and its expensive. On the Mercury Grand MArquis we had, it went bad and acted like a vacuum leak where the vents went to defrost at will. 18 months after replacing it, it went bad again. Same thing with a truck we used to have. We usually just set it between 68-70 and never messed with it other than fan speed. I decided then that the we would not have another Ford with that style control head. I cannot find the receipt to compare P/N's, but the control heads for the 2 looked just alike.

Basically, the controls are different, the cab wiring harness is different. The engine compartment wiring harness is different. There is an external temp sensor. There is an internal temp sensor that is part of one of the vents, not sure which one, but also has an opening in the dash to pull air in, so the dash is different. And the fan speed controller is different.

so basically way more work then just the controller that blows. oh well Ill make with what I have

kmonty2 01-11-2012 07:43 PM

Yes Mark is correct, it's a huge job and not just changing the controls. I ask a A/C engineer about that same thing, he said you need to get the whole system. With the digital it comes with the duel which means there are 2 bezels that control who gets what air and how much. He said it is not worth the work to switch over. If you really want it, should have found a truck with it already installed from the factory.

bringing this back from the dead.

So I found two limited excursion that were rolled over. I can get all the parts from them for cheap, I just not sure what all is needed. I would like to do this swap too if possible.

May be silly but I would like to add a better steering wheel with radio controls and having the climate controls on the steering wheel bother me if they don't work.

Thanks
Chris

Chris,
Did you ever do this conversion? I am interested in doing it on a 2002 for the same reasons, I want the factory steering wheel volume controls. Again I agree may sound silly to some, but it's something I would like to see if it can be done.
